Best value on dinner menu!
by tamcora
Great menu, everything from seafood, salads, steaks to great Kobe Sliders!! The view is great and they have done a remodel of the restaurant and the name, now Back Bay Bistro. They have awesome martinis and a great happy hour menu. Watching the boat launch is entertaining!!!
waterfront dining

Formaly known as the Back Bay Cafe, this restaurant has been completely renovated and renamed "Back Bay Bistro"
Patio dining with retractable roof overlooking stunning views of the Bay. Upscale but casual.
They have done an incredible job, from the decor, the new menus and extensive new wine list.
This will know doubt be a "must go" for a great dining experience in Newport Beach.
From their great appetizers to Seafood to Steaks everything was great. Fantastic Bar with more great views. Also their popular brunch is still a favorite. Suggest reservations as the luncheon we attended was packed.
- Pros: ambiance, waterfront views, reasonably priced, new menus
- Cons: none.
great view

We had a good experience, casual atmosphere, friendly ,and good service. The patio and view was great. The inside dining area does not have a view, but they certainly do not have plastic table cloths as one person wrote. ...glass tops with linen tablecloths and napkins, nice. The seafood chowder was awesome and the service was fast and friendly. Sunday brunch is great, great mashed potato martini and lots of champagne for a pretty good price.
- Pros: great view
- Cons: none
Great location, so-so indoor ambiance
by kathyh717
This restaurant/cafe has a great location, with a amazing view of the Newport Beach Back Bay. It also has a very large outdoor seating area, with heating lamps for when it's chilly. When I went for lunch (in January) it was a little to cold to sit outside, even with the heaters. The decor inside leaves A LOT to be desired. It was like a high school cafeteria. From the pictures on the wall and the plastic table cloths, I felt like I was back in the 80's. Also, the food was average at best. I had the chicken salad. If your going for a cocktail after work, it's great, otherwise choose something else for lunch. Service was extremely efficient. Parking is free when you get it validated by the restaurant.
- Pros: Views, Location, Free Parking
- Cons: Indoor Decor, Food
Kick back on Newport's ultimate waterfront patio sipping a signature bloody mary and snickering at first-time seamen.

In Short
This large red-roofed landmark sits next to the Newport Dunes launch ramp, where a patio seat affords a view of would-be boaters learning how to navigate the bay. Boat, walk, drive or bike up, grab an oceanfront table and take in the scene. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch year-round, while summer months bring a California dinner menu featuring seafood and steak. Known for good reason for its seafood chowder, the cafe also serves top-notch salads and sandwiches.
