Not Very Honest

by liljedi

I would have gone here for my wedding gown shopping, but a friend of mine had the misfortune of going gown shopping here and finding out they remove the label's off their tags so brides don't even know what they are buying.

Someone should tell these people that if you pull a tag off a dress without replacing it with their own label they are breaking the law. But, honestly, even if you do replace it with your own label. It's still shady and dishonest at best.

I also find it pretty funny that most of the positive reviews are from people who haven't posted reviews for anything else on City Search. I guess the sales staff is writing reviews when they aren't trying to shove dresses down an unsuspecting bride's throat.

"I loved my experience at Mon Amie and my dress. I felt so beautiful the day of my wedding and I have so much to thank you for. Especially in my situation where I was planning my wedding from abroad, I didn't have alot of time for dress shopping. So it was great to walk into Mon Amie and walk out with everything... dress, veil, shoes, undergarments.. all taken care of!"

I got married to the love of my life just about 2 months ago. It was the very best day of my life. Even though those few little things fell threw the cracks, like they always do, my husband and I got through it together. We got married at the Long Beach Museum of Art, overlooking the ocean, on a clear day, at sunset. We could not have asked for a better day.

Andrew asked me to marry him in London just over a year ago, and that year went by fast! So many people to meet with, shops to look in, appointments to hold, food to taste, and addresses to get. But the first and easiest thing I did was find my dress. My mom, sister and I walked into your store, was greeted right away by a friendly associate, and I began to try on dresses. It did not take too long to figure out what shape I liked best on me, and the fact that the designer of the dresses I liked best was in the store that day to help, was a god send. He knew exactly what dresses to put on me, and even what color would work best in pictures! And he was right. I choose a Stephan Yearick gown in platinum and I could not have been happier with how it turned out. The seamstress did an amazing job making it fit perfectly to my body. The dress was easy to move around in, easy to sit in, and it looked so great next to my bridesmaids, who were wearing cranberry. I received so many compliments on it. Thank you so much for making that aspect of my wedding easy and uncomplicated.

Dress was late and in the wrong color.

by xineshim

They were late on the dress by 2 weeks (they set the date and assured me the dress would come in just in time for my wedding), and probably longer had I not started calling about my dress. I had abotu a 6 week window to get the dress, have it altered and walk down the aisle. I ordered a beautiful ivory on ivory dress, and I got an ivory on champagne dress. Basically my dreams of a slightly off white dress are dashed because I have to walk down the aisle in a what is basically a taupe dress.

Because they were late with the dress, and I had come in to pick it up at night (in a darker dressing room) I didn't see it was the wrong color. When I picked up my dress from being altered, it was still day time I noticed it was darker than I remembered. I checked the label and there it was, ivory on champagne.

I've called to complain, and will see what happens... I just find it galling that they make you sign all this stuff about how they hold you accountable for payment, not changing your mind (or pay a fee) alterations, etc. Yet they missed the deadline they set (on the dress and the veil) and delivered the wrong product. Where is their accountability?

  • Pros: Great buying experience
  • Cons: They were late, and I got the wrong color

I'm in Love!

by MarieMc

I have been searching for my dream dress for months now with no luck. This past weekend I attended the trunk show at Mon Amie featuring amazing designer Amy Michelson and I FINALLY found my dress!! I got to meet the designer herself and she was wonderful!!! They listened to exactly what I wanted and I felt on top of the world when I found my dress. The designer even made me my own hand drawn original sketch! It was overall such an experience. My friends and mother felt welcomed too. I was able to find the accessories and shoes that matched beautifully with my dress! My consultant was amazing and I would recommend this experience to anyone. They have such a selection and the people are so nice. I love the fact that I could meet the actual designer of my dress too. Thank you so very much to Mon Amie and Amy Michelson!

Please spare yourself the heartache

by BriannaB

I feel in love with a dress here and searched high and low to find it somewhere else. I could not find it without leaving the state so I decided to try my luck with Mon Amie, even after hearing less than stellar reviews. This was a huge mistake. From the moment I purchased the dress, my family and I were treated with little to no respect or courtesy.

When I went for my first fitting the problems really began. I had been quoted between $400-$500 for alterations. I went for my fitting and was quoted $700 for alterations, including 28 bustles. Now, I did need it taken in a small amount as well as hemmed and it had a lace overlay with detail and beads... but $700 seemed ridiculous, as did 28 bustles. I was told this was the only way to bustle the dress. The seamstress that helped me kept telling me about every alteration "this is the only way it can be done." Even the woman who set up my next appointment was shocked at the price and told me "you must be having a lot of custom work done." I was having none. On the way home I decided I was getting ripped off and called back to see if I could take the dress somewhere else to be altered. I WAS HUNG UP ON! I was then told I'd have to ask the manager. The manager told me to come in and we'd see what we could do to alter the price. She never answered my question. Instead she lead me to believe they were my only choice.

I came in and saw the head seamstress, a truly wonderful woman who found a way to bustle the dress with only 9 bustles, cutting $250 out of the alterations. She also agree to press the dress and veil for the price the first seamstress had quoted me, HALF the price she quoted me. Clearly, something fishy was going on here.I asked what else I could possibly be charged for. She told me that I'd only be charged if I drastically changed my appearance affecting the fit, such as losing or gaining weight. I was told I would work with her exclusively from now on.

I came in for my second/final fitting. The first seamstress was there again, still telling me that things could only be done one way, even if they'd already been done another way. The brought the head seamstress in who was happy to make the changes I requested, like bringing the top in just a tiny bit more. She then told me it didn't fit right because I obviously had lost a reasonable amount of weight. I had actually gained a few pounds and offered to provide proof of this to avoid being charged more. She did not find this funny. We agreed to have the top taken in and everything pressed and I'd be back in 2 weeks to pick it up, 2 days before my wedding.

I arrived to pick up my dress. They brought it out and lifted the large blue bag they store it in up so I could see it. All I could see were the wrinkles and strings everywhere. There were strings and beads hanging off all over it. They kept telling me the wrinkles would "fall right" once it was on my body. I asked them to repress it and trim the strings. They took it away and brought it back about 15 minutes later while I expressed my extraordinary dissatisfaction with the staff. They brought it back. I looked the same to me but they were clearly ready to rush me out of the store so we left.

I spent 20 minutes on the day of my wedding trimming strings and resewing beads to my dress. We rented a steamer which in 10 minutes took out a majority of the wrinkles in my "pressed" dress. I'm going to send this review to Mon Amie directly and ask for my money back for the alterations because no one should pay that much for that poor quality. It brought me to tears to see my beautiful dress so poorly cared for.

Please spare yourself the heartache and go anywhere else.

They took the best care of me - before and after - I purchased the dress

by KamaSage

Rave reviews for Mon Amie. Yes, they have a zillion dresses. Yes, they are the #1 place to go. I have to say, the CUSTOMER SERVICE was way above anything I would have expected. Went just to look and got sucked in by family pressure and bought a dress. On the ride home, had buyer's remorse and called begging them not to put the order through. They made room for me the next day (a very busy Saturday) to come back. And I found THE dress. Just went to pick it up today. The designer had misinterpreted the special instructions on the order (I could see how it may have gone either way). I was freaking out, but the manager, Kelly Goodridge, and the alterations guru, Esmy, saved the day. Not only are they making the corrections at no charge, but they are doing it in just 3 days. Catastrophe averted. Not only was everyone very nice, professional and calming - more important than you think - but the only thing that mattered to Kelly was that I received the dress exactly the way I envisioned it. They say that the wedding business is a racket, but the kind ladies at Mon Amie proved them wrong and really showed me 5 star service and I couldn't be more thankful!

  • Pros: Selection, 5-Star Customer Service

I love this place!

by krystalben

I loved Mon Amie! Theyre selection is awesome and theyre staff were always friendly to my family and I. They had no problem that I wanted to try on 100 dresses, I never felt rushed or pressured to purchase, I scheduled 2 appointments before buying my dress and no one complained that I was taking my time. Because theyre so busy, you have to schedule an appointment and if you're budget is under $1000, its not likely you'll find a gown there. I worked with Bell, who was amazing. She was very honest in her opinion of how I looked in the dresses, and learned my taste quickly, helping me filter through all the dresses and accessories. They even didnt mind that I wanted to try on other dresses [months after I'd already purchased my gown].

I would definately recommend this store to the bride looking to find her dream dress. Just know that you should schedule an appointment first (even if its calling just before you drive over-- they were very accomidating w/me) and know that the dresses are couture, so I doubt they have dresses under 1000.

Good luck finding your dress!

oh yeah, as an added bonus, i also got to meet the designer of my dress here (he sketched me in my dress!) and we even met Stephen Yearick, who custom designed a gown for my mom, using one of his samples as a template!

  • Pros: great selection, very friendly and helpful
  • Cons: expensive gowns, but you get what you pay for! theyre comparable to other couture shops

I loved getting my dress here-

by amber414

I loved my experience at Mon Amie. Everyone was so nice, very welcoming, and warm. Belle helped me select the perfect dress, and was very patient with me. She was also wonderful at listening to what I liked, and finding the perfect dresses and accessories to fit with my criteria. She went above and beyond, and was able to help me craft a really beautiful look I might not have found on my own. I couldn't be happier with my experience at Mon Amie, and with Belle. (I hated the process before coming here!) Mon Amie elevated the exhausting process of searching for a wedding gown into an amazing and special experience for me. Selecting a dress here was just like the best, most elaborate, most fun game of dress up ever, and they completely made sure it was amazing and welcoming. just wonderful.
