My wife and I decided to try Riptide for her birthday. I made online reservations and filled in the box that lets you tell the Maitre D' of any special requests. I said that it was my wife's birthday. This was a total waste of time. We arrived early and sat at the bar to enjoy a drink before dinner. The base speaker was so loud that we could not carry on a conversation. Not really a deal breaker but needs to be corrected. We were seated with a nice family of four and the waiter took our drink orders and returned with our drinks a reasonable amount of time. After that the service was down hill, it was like once we got our drinks the waiter just disappeared for the rest of the night. He never came back to refill the "Endless soda refills" or to get refills for anything. Never came back to check on us at all. He completely forgot the soup portion of the meal for the entire table. Seriously how do you forget to bring an entire course. Then after every body was finished he brought the check for the other family but my wife and I sat there for 15 minutes before I stood up and got his attention so he could bring us our check. He never ask if we wanted dessert. Nothing was done for my wife's birthday and when I mentioned to him that he forgot the soup portion of the meal he thought that it was funny and his eyes were red and half closed. It was the most unprofessional service we have ever received. The food was really good but I would warn people that if they can't handle poor service then they better find another place to dine.
Pros: Good food
Cons: The worst waiter service I have ever experienced.

I LOVE this place!!! I live in San Diego and wish we had one closer. Riptide has given me by far the best sushi and dining experience! I recommend it to everyone. I love that they offer sushi and other food choices as well for those who don't eat sushi. The owners greet their customers and are really friendly. It's a great place for a party or big group of people. I also just recently went there for breakfast and ate some awesome peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes! Yummy!!!
Pros: service and food
Cons: there isn't one in San Diego

This is the only sushi my friends and family will go to anymore...The rolls are huge and so delicious..The price is just right especially for happy hour and Thurs. nights. Are you kidding me all the food was great..it was kinda strange that you can get other types of food there, but I guess not everyone loves sushi or teppan. The service has always been fantastic, we have come many times with a large party and with children. Everything is always perfect. If you want a place that has a fantastic atmosphere, great service and yummy food, look no further. See you soon.
Pros: everything.....
Cons: can't think of a thing..

I have to say when I walked into this restraunt I was shocked. The place is beautiful. With gorgeous decor, beautiful waterfalls, and a stunning full bar which also includes a waterfall it looked amazing. I couldnt wait to see how the food and service could match the ambiance. I put my name on the wait list expecting to wait an hour or more, but i was in a booth in less than twenty minutes and the place was packed. Our server was prompt to greet us and offer us drinks. The menu was huge it took me 10 minutes just to narrow it down to a oak grilled ny steak. But before the food arrived we tried a few rolls which were the most tasty creative sushi I have ever seen. The NY took a little longer than i expected but when it arrived it was so big and thick i understood the wait. It was definitley worth it. Who would think a sushi-teppanyaki restraunt would serve a perfect steak as well. I now see why this place is such a huge success. The upbeat music just tops of the great atmosphere. I would say one of my favorite restraunts hands down! A must try!
Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere
Cons: There is only one Riptide

I used to work here...the place is wrong!! Anyway, you work ur booty off, and because the place is sooooooooo huge, and ur tables are far apart, it is highly impossible to give good service!! Outrageous!! Management is awful, and deserves sexual harassment suits, and the captains aren't "A" waiters, they are the mean ppl of the joint...no one is straight with you, and the customers think they are all that, can't even tell you what they want...they tell management then you are screwed...I came here to work as a bartender, and ended up a waiter...you give all your tips to the sushi chefs who make 15 an hr, and u work ur booty off to only make minimum plus bupkiss....Don't work here or for Chomp, plus they take way too much out for taxes, don't pay overtime, and you don't get breaks...the side work takes 3 hrs to finish, and u aren't allowed to tackle it until ur off...and if u wanna know why the service is awful, see the size of plus, and then count the service stations, and watch where your waiter has to go, you'll be far more understanding, w/ a 65 foot square sushi bar, and your waiter bouncing out the door and in the door to give service, there is your answer, and the sushi chefs are treated like kings, the waiters drink shots, (reason why your service is gross as well) and the chefs drink whole drinks whatever they want...you claim your tips, and donate ur earnings to the chefs!
Pros: the food is a great variety
Cons: the service is awful, and the owner doesn't deserve your business

I enjoy the louder music like STP and pop songs from KIIS, the food is fantastic the best thing is the tornado roll and the teppan volcano, plus the full bar. It has a fun atmosphere for the younger crowd who likes to spoil themselves with a nice dinner. I am not a big fan of the service 2/3 times it has been less than great, but i'm not at the restaurant for the waiter.
Pros: Food, Atmosphere
Cons: Service

I have been to this place twice; trying to prove the whole "first impression says a lot" wrong. Well, unfortunately, in this place, my first impression is right. The waiter/waitresses are just rude. The first time I was there with bunch of friends, the waitress that was hosting our table accused us for not paying enough when we were leaving, harrassing on of my friend by grabbing his hand and told him that we didn't pay enough. The funny thing is, she counted again in front of my friend and she counted wrong. The second time I was there, we had to literally wait for 20 minutes for the waitress to come and serve us beverages...not food....beverages.....the sushi are really not bad...just the service that ruins everything..I wouldn't recommend this place especially for the weekends. This restaurant ruins your weekend mood.

Food is good but it's not a real sushi restaurant but if you like sushi rolls with sweet and syrupy sauce they have plenty of options. I've been there twice and both times, they fell really short on the service side. The host/hostess should be trained to greet customers when they come in! They seem more interested in talking to each other. I don't consider Riptide a fine dining (the name says it all) but it is a "nice" restaurant and I would expect more refined service from the staff. There are so many good sushi/Japanese restaurant in OC, I wouldn't go back.
Cons: Service

BEST SUSHI PLACE I HAVE BEEN SO FAR! VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE AND BEAUTIFUL ATMOSPHERE. HAVE A LARGE SUSHI BAR WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE CHEFS MAKE YOUR MEAL, NICE DINING AREA AND BIG COMFY BOOTHS AND TEPAN TABLES ALL AROUND. THEY PLAY FUN MUSIC AND PLAY SPORTS GAMES ON THEIR TVS POSTED UP THROUGHOUT THE PLACE. THEIR FOOD PRESENTATIONS ARE SUPERB AND NOT OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. AVERAGE PRICE IS AROUND 12.00 DOLLARS A ROLL AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE SUSHI THEY HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF OTHER GOOD FOOD. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE MEGA EBI ROLL OR TORNADO ROLL. WILL KEEP COMING BACK!
Pros: Booths are raised high up and wrap around your table for more privacy and can be a romantic date as well, & Everything else!
Cons: If you want more of a bar scene, it's not a good place due to their size bar.
