Great location

I have been going to Mastro's Ocean Club since they first opened their doors. I spent the first New Years they opened at Mastro's to welcome the New Year. I have entertained big parties there and my last visit about 3 week ago was the worst service EVER!!!! The guy did not seem to be young but be was so slow and forgetful with our orders that I so much wanted to get up and walk out. I am thinking that upper management better wake up otherwise Mastro's will be losing some its best regular cliental.

• Pros: Location and Lobster Bisque
• Cons: Service seems to be getting worse..

Over priced and terrible service

This is one of the most expensive establishments in Orange county. Without wine or drinks, expect to pay $100 for two. The seafood here is good but the portions are small. The wait staff all seem to be high school or college students who know nothing about food or wine.

• Cons: Poor Service and too costly

Avoid the Sea Bass

At first, there was Impressive ambience and clientele. Arrived in time to view the sunset with spectacular views. The side dishes were excellent; especially the creamed spinach, the mashed potatoes, and the lobster bisque. The waiter was polite, but failed to bring out my sea bass with the other dishes. He promised to have it brought "right out'. In the meantime, I shared the another's sea bass. Following a 30 minute wait, I asked him to just cancel my order. He refused stating it was too late. He suggested 'boxing it up" so I could take it home for later.

The day before I had dined on the sea bass at another Newport Restaurant that was EXQUISITE! [and less than 1/2 the price]. The presentation, sauce, and delicate taste of the fish reflected a Master Chef. Not so at Mastros. I got a hunk of fish with little more. Except a 500 dollar bill for the view, and a case of nausea that awoke me at 1:00 am. My friend with whom I shared the sea bass also got sick.

For the price, I would expect a better Chef, and certainly not a case of nausea. The refusal to cancel my belated main course suggests a restaurant that cares more about the night's profit than gaining my return business.

• Cons: Seafood. Price.

The Steak Place of the Universe

Yes, it is crowded, expensive &boring beach locals... all that aside....when they bring the filet, lock the doors, It is all over with. That piece of meat is cooked to perfection & TASTEE>>>

I think the location of this one is the best because the Ocean is there, HA HA.. The one at So Coast is lounge lizard & the one in Phoenix, OK. Again, the service was impressive both times I have been to this location & my guests were amazed.

Great service and ambiance

Service was wonderful, the wine selection amazing, and it was very nice ambiance. The food was good but not nearly as good as I expected for the prices and the hype, I've def had better seafood. It's worth a try once.

EXCELLENT

Went to Mastro's on a Sunday night b/f a holiday. Was able to make reservations the day of, a little later than wanted, but were able to get them. Arrived a few min early. Got a drink at the bar, seated in time for our reservation. The service was amazing... from the hostess, to the bartendar, to the wait staff. We both had steaks which was cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared the butter cake which might be one of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted. I definitely recommend this restaurant, they even called us a couple days later to make sure our experience was to our liking.

Best of the Best

Ten of us went for my bachelorette party and had a BLAST. Excellent service, amazing food and atmosphere. I have been to every major steakhouse in the country and Mastro's is the BEST. Great wine selection, huge portions and fun staff. I plan on taking all of my out of town guest there!!!

Great place to visit

I love steak, I usually try a new steak house every weekend, tends to be expensive! I must say this place the steak is amazing, try the Bone in Filet. Of course the scene is happening, Cantelope Martini- a must have. Reservations recomended.
