Awesome Mediterranean Food
by bwillard1
Caffe Panini is a great local spot to grab quick mediterranean food. I love their greek salad and they have amazing hummus and pita bread (its always fresh!). Its also a great spot for brunch on the weekends but get there early because the wait can sometimes be very long.
- Pros: Great Hummus and Pita Bread
- Cons: Line can be long to get in
Great Mediterranean food and wine
by hoaglund
Stumbled upon this delightful Mediterranean restaurant / deli after viewing the ocean from the bluffs in Corona del Mar. I often eat alone, and they seated me in the middle of the restaurant with everyone else, even though they were busy, and gave me great service (usually you get stuck in the corner and ignored). I had a longing for Greek or Middle Eastern food, and they did not let me down. Their domas (stuffed grape leaves) were excellent, as was the hummus and baklava. They served great bread and wine. I look forward to sampling their kabobs, falafel, and kibi. Nicely decorated with wood floors. They need Sunday late hours (close at 3).
After dinner, continue the directions to the ocean views given to me [ from Irvine, Jamboree Rd to its end, turn left on Ocean Blvd (PCH #1) ...] : From the restaurant, continue down Ocean Blvd about 10 blocks to Marguerite. Turn right on Marguerite and drive through the neighborhood about 3 blocks to a view above the ocean.
- Pros: Ambiance, friendly fast service, good food, social, window seating available
- Cons: no parking, but you can find street parking in the neighborhoods behind PCH

This European-style cafe serves Italian and Mediterranean specialties.

In Short
The sky-blue ceiling and cityscape-painted walls provide the illusion of dining in the intended Italian-seaside village of Portofino. Homemade panini sandwiches--served grilled or deli-style--are the specialty, but traditional pasta and pizza selections are also served. Not in the mood for Italian? Try the Mediterranean specialties, such as hummus, stuffed grape leaves and meat kabobs. For breakfast, order anything from eggs to breakfast sandwiches on focaccia.
