This place has the best king crab legs in the los angeles area, bar none. The selection of side dishes leaves something to be desired, especially if you are not that fond of rice or potatoes. But the crab is king. The service is generally good, though you do have to wait sometimes. This is not a place to bring kids. It is too expensive and things are a little crowded inside. Besides I don't want to hear your kid screaming while I am spending $200 for dinner for two with wine. I eat here at least 4-5 times a year and have never had a bad food experience. I have had grilled fish, prime rib and crab -- all very good. The salads are wonderful, as is the bread.
Pros: Crab
Cons: Crowded and noisy

My husband and I have gone to this restaurant at least 50 times in the last 25 years. One thing that has never changed is their exemplary customer service. To this date, they still great everyone by name as they take you to your table. They have some of the same servers that have been there for years. We've even seen a couple of professional athletes frequent this place. Yes, it is a popular spot to go and eat their delicious food. Reservations are highly recommended. However, from time to time, we have just stopped by on a Saturday night and never had to wait more than an hour for a table. Of course, besides all of that, what has brought us back to this wonderful restaurant time after time, is their great food. All their appetizers are delicious, the salad is fresh and light, the bread is to die for; always hot and warm, and their main courses are fantastic! My husband loves the huge king crab legs, and I love the shrimp scampi or the blackened salmon (excuse me while I wipe the drool from my mouth) I'm sure we'll continue to go back for all our special occasions for years to come.
Cons: Parking almost always full, but worth the walk.

THE RESTRUANT IS GREAT. ME AND MY WIFE HAVE EATEN THERE FOR YEARS. I DON'T THINK THAT THERE IS MUCH MORE THAT ONE CAN ASK FOR WHEN LOOKING FOR A NICE SEA FOOD RESTRUANT. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED BAD SERVICE. AS FOR THE MAN WHO SAID HE DID NOT FEEL WELCOME DUE TO THE FACT HE WAS A MINORITY, MAYBE HE NEEDS TO ASK HIM SELF IF MAYBE HE WAS THE PROBLEM. ME AND MY WIFE ARE BOTH MINORITIES OF COLOR AND NEVER FELT UNFAIRLY TREATED BY THE STAFF OR OTHER GUEST. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS RESTRUANT TO ALL . I FIND IT FUNNY THAT A FEW PEOPLE STATED THAT THEY HAD BAD EXPERIENCE BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY STATED IT WAS A FIRST. I FIND THAT TO BE BAD ON THE CONSUMER TO TYPE SUCH NEGATIVE COMMENTS. WHERE ARE YOUR POSITIVE COMMENTS NOT EVER DAY CAN BE PERFECT. I DONT FEEL THAT CAPTAIN JACKS IS A PARTY PLACE IF YOU WANT TO GO TO DINNER IN A BIG GROUP AND BE LOUD YOU MIGHT WANT TO PICK A DIFFERENT PLACE FOR DINNER. WE ARE LOOKING VERY FORWARD TO EATING THERE THIS FRIDAY.
Pros: SEAFOOD
Cons: PARKING

We arrived at Captain Jack's around 7:30 on a saturday for what we had intended to be a very pleasant evening. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait even though they didnt seem that busy but ended up waiting over 2 hours. We had to retreave our own drinks in the lounge before noticing there was actually a bar maid who was servicing the lounge. Once we were taken to our table (the last table nearest the handicapped bathroom) the server explained the menu and we were more than ready to taste the famous crab legs. Our food was served by a youngish, red headed guy who proceeded to spill crab juice on my pants offering no apology. The crab was just ok, the salad was disgusting, the scallops were under cooked, and the swordfish was simular to a hockey puck and to top it all off I ended up violently ill about an hour later. The atmosphere was not that hospitable as no one greeted us when we arrived however they gladly thanked us as we were leaving. I guess the OC is not used to minority patrons in their neighborhoods nor may they welcome a splash of color every now and again. Lets just say I will not recommend this place to friends nor will I ever return, I could have done better going to the Sizzler.
Pros: the guitarist was actually talented...
Cons: not culturally diverse

I have been to Captain Jack's several times but last week we were there to celebrate my son's graduation and I have to say we were all very disappointed. We had the worse service ever and my steak was nothing to speak of, I would have rather gone to Black Angus or Dukes.
Cons: Very slow service

Normally i would give this restaurant an amazing review however i visited there saturday night the crab legs were dynamite, i have been a wine writer for years and used to work for a major winery. when i carefully selected my wine for this evening i chilled it in my car and walked all the way in with my fine aged bottle of wine only to find out they do not allow you to bring in your own wine WHAT A CROCK I NOTICED AT 7:15 HE WASNT THAT BUSY MAYBEE ITS BECAUSE OF HIS SILLY OLD SCHOOL RULES I HOPE TIM ENJOYED OUR BUSINESS IT WILL CERTAINLY BE OUR LAST HE ALONG WITH HIS EMPLOYEES DIDNT SEEM TO CARE I WOULD GUESS ONE LESS CUSTOMER MAY TRANSLATED INTO SEVERAL AS I WILL NO LONGER RECOMEND THIS RESTAURANT GOOD LUCK TIM!
Pros: GREAT CRAB LEGS NO BETTER IN OC
Cons: owner seems to hold on to silly business loosing policies

I have to tell you, I've been going to Cap'n Jacks for almost 20 years and have NEVER been disappointed. The food, atmosphere , and service are always no less than amazing. I've gone for casual mid-week meals, celebrations, and romantic dinners with each turning out to be great. Absolutely the best crab legs in O.C. and escargot that any fine french restaurant could take lesson from. If there's a down side, it could be the parking which is completely overshadowed by the experience inside.
Pros: Everything inside
Cons: parking

Orange County might have some of the worst food in California. Captain Jack's is one of the few old school establishments that feels like it might actually have...dare I say it, CHARACTER. It's on the water, it's a bit grungy, it has a loyal local crowd, and the food is pretty good - it's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it's tasty and there's a lot of it. The vibe is great and funky and they have live music in the lounge almost every night of the week. It's dark and has lots of nooks and crannies, fish tanks, and even has a dock for locals who cruise up by Duffy. We've lived in next door Huntington Beach for 4 years and go to CJ's probably three or four times a year. Even just for drinks it's a great haunt. Fleming's it's not, but for what it is - a funky old pub-style steakhouse on the water in just-as-funky-Sunset-Beach with good crab legs and prime rib - it's a fantastic place. And when you take into consideration just how un-funky Orange County is, with its strip mall personality, it's also a very rare find. Bring friends. Have fun. Share the prime rib - it's HUGE.
Pros: Ambience, Local Crowd, Waterfront, Funky, Lots of Character, Live Music, Valet, Portions
