Authentic Northern Thai Food

by jankiku

My husband is Thai and he tells me this is the most authentic Thai restaurant (even better than ones in Thai Town) in the LA/OC area. The cuisine specializes in dishes from Northern Thailand (where his family is from). There was a fire at the Garden Grove location, but they are open at 11951 Beach Blvd. in Stanton (phone 714-799-2031).

We always order many of the same dishes when we go there: BBQ chicken, tod mun (fish cakes... these are my favorite!), sausage (everyone's favorite!!!), steak, beef panang (a red curry), ong choi (I can't spell the Thai word for it), and what we call "crab cakes", but they're really crab and pork dumplings. There's lots of other great dishes... and don't forget the sticky rice and mango for dessert!

If you want authentic Thai food (and you're more adventurous than pad thai) you can't go wrong at Thai Nakorn...

Note that the Mission Viejo location has a new owner and I can no longer vouch for the food there. The GG store will reopen, but I don't know when.

  • Pros: Fantastic food at a great price
  • Cons: That there aren't more locations near me!

Reopening?

by metrotuner

When will the restaurant be back in operation?

the strong, bold flavors of nuah nam tok, grilled hot, but soft and moist to the touch. Creamy yellow curry with just the right balance of spiciness and sweetness at the same time. the perfectly tamarind soured shrimp thai soup (tom yom kung) served while still over a flame. so it's still piping hot once it hits your dish

the buttery peanut condiment that comes w the aromatic satay chicken skewers, grilled w a nice outdoors bbq smoked flavor

realy bold flavors

by blankorangutan

Ive been to alot of asian restaurants that advertize authenticity. this one does not need to advertize. the bold flavors explode in your mouth.Ive eaten alot of home made thai food and vietnamese food and this place uses alot of the same ingreedience. I would recomend the mee krob thas has a wonderfull honey flavor. the surroundings are verry modern yet still asian with the baroque shrine hung from the celing.

they also have a full bar with a verry attentive tender behind it.

  • Pros: the spicey and sour flavors
  • Cons: sometimes full of people

The Best Thai Food!

by john_m_dykstra

If you go.... bring a empty stomach! The food is amazing. Really, the best Thai food in Southern California. The BBQ chicken and Fish are amazing. And unlike a lot of Thai resturants that make one sauce that is suppose to go with everything. Thai Nakorn has really specially individualized sauces that goes with everything. They really know how to bring out the flavors in the food.

And don't forget to try out their desserts! There is green noodle dessert that kind of looks like worms in a white coconut sauce in ice... okay, it looks a little freaky at first, but don't worry... it's not worms... and the taste is AMAZING!!!!! You'll love it!

It gets really crowded and loud... and with the sea of Asian faces... you feel like you're in Thailand... but the food here is even better!!!!!

  • Pros: Amazing Food, Nice Staff, Good Price
  • Cons: Crowded, W

Authentic Thai food experience

by caronyin

Just want to warn everyone that the Buena Park location is now closed. I accidently went there but called Thai Nakorn and they gave me great directions to the Garden Grove location.

It was a true dining experience - the room is packed with customers and the menu had a wide array of Thai dishes (not just the typical fare). The food was also served very quickly; we had bbq tongue, fried whole fish with sweet and sour sauce (crispy on the outside but so tender/moist on the inside!), watercress with onions (my personal favorite as I'm a veggie lover) and Tom Yum hot and sour soup. All delicious. I highly recommen this to anyone wanting authentic/delicious thai food.

Don't expect the waiter to hover over your table. Be prepared to call them over since it's so crowded and busy. Although once they do, they're always smiling and friendly.

  • Pros: Food is delicious, Food served quickly
  • Cons: To the meek - service

Best Authentic Thai Food

by mistakac

Best authentic thai food in Southern California. Not all the dishes are great. But a majority of the dishes definitely are hard to surpass compared to other restaurants even in Hollywood. Their authentic Northern style Thai Beef salad (Nam Tok) and the Thai Nakorn Beef Salad (Seur Rong Hai) are my favs. You also can't pass up the Pla Dad Dew (Fried fish with Mango/Apple Sauce).

The Best of the Best?

by lbpinoi

In my humble opinion, I think the food here is even better than any of the restaurants in Thai Town in Los Angeles. The fact that most of the customers here are Thai also says something about this place. But don't go hungry on a weekend night or be prepared to wait!

  • Pros: Pad-see-ew, Fried Catfish w/Mango, Chicken Sa-te
  • Cons: Decor, Weekend wait, Weekend parking
