Editorial Review for Ammo – by Lesley Jacobs
The Scene
Tea lights, Japanese paper lanterns and soft-beige walls echo chef/owner Amy Sweeney's personal Buddhist aesthetic. The mood music is played too loud at times, and the pleasant servers can get distracted, but the casually dressed Eastside-heavy crowds don't seem to mind at all.
The Food
New American cuisine focused on seasonal ingredients creates a menu of healthy, artful comfort food. Starters include an imaginative three string-bean salad with fennel, radish, grape tomatoes, baby artichokes, mache and golden beets, lightly dressed in a Dijon citronette. The roasted eggplant pizza of the week with chili oil, Sungold tomatoes and arugula is scrumptious. Main courses range from flaky pan-seared Alaskan halibut accented by thinly sliced roasted red potatoes and caramelized shallots to an enormous double-cut pork chop complemented inventively by caramelized plums and whipped potatoes. For dessert, the chocolate truffle cake with whipped mascarpone is worth the indulgence.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe popular turkey meat loaf is only served for lunch and Monday nights at dinner. Vegetarians will find plenty to eat here, too.
What to DrinkThe Valserrano Rioja is fruity and full-bodied, reasonable at $8 a glass; house elixirs--Virtual Buddha peach and Depth Charge berry are the most popular--taste like grown-up fruit punch.

My friend and I tried this restaurant on a Friday night, we had high hopes, as it looked adorable from the outside. I ordered a pomogranite martini..pretty good, my friends pear martini was awful. We started with the tuna tartar it was just ok, kind of tasteless, and the crab appetizer, again just ok. I ordered the lasagna, it was AWFUL. My friend and I ended up leaving and scrambling to get another reservation somewhere else. We will not be back. Im not the only one who feels like this Im sure, as the restaurant was pretty empty.Oh and the bill for appetizers and drinks..$80.00

Ammo has a great look, understated, elegant and simple. I was also very impressed with the flat bread that came to the table. From there it went downhill. The server was short with us and was not seen after the food was served. The lasagna entree for $18 was appetizer portion and the only flavor came from the fact it was burnt. I won't go back.
