Totally cool shrimp & sweet potato tempura - worth the drive..
I love the shrimp & sweet potato tempura. Beware, it is not what you expect. They leave the shell on the shrimp (headless, though) and the sweet potato is 'showstringed' then it is all mixed together in tempura batter then deep fried as a loaf... or block.. of shrimp and sweet potato.
I always ask for the shrimp to be peeled. I like it better that way... just me.
CON: No friggin salt! I always have to ask for salt and they bring it in a little bowl. However, it is good for pulling apart the tempura and touching it to the salt. But buy a couple of salt shakers... you can hide them but at least have them in case someone asks for it.
Dine on top Northern Vietnamese-prepared seafood, deep fried treats and tropical fruit salads..
The airy dining room features contemporary photos of Vietnam and a lionfish lurks in the gleaming centerpiece aquarium. The house specialty--grilled red snapper with dill--entices both regulars and tourists. Other dishes include steamed periwinkle, with ginger sauce, shrimp and sweet potato tempura, charbroiled shrimp on sugarcane, and bun rieu, a light tomato soup with crab and seafood. Pig-feet stew is available for the adventurous; and green papaya salad for the health conscious.
