The Hungry Bear Restaurant is serving family home-style Amer.
Our dining experience started off with clam chowder, the soup of the day. It was reminiscent of the chowder at another familiar all-you-can-eat salad bar restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a bit undercooked. The celery was still crunchy and the sandy clams were a bit off-putting as well. The cream base was fair. It could have used more herbs, like basil, thyme, and bay leaf, to punch it up a bit and perhaps some bacon for a little salty, smoky flavor. However, this is a plus for those who are watching their sodium intake.
Cajun Rib Eye Steak was deliciously seasoned, but a bit overdone for my liking. Since the dish is served on a metal hot plate, the steak continued cooking. Just as a note, you may want to order your steak a bit under your normal choice of doneness. The baked potato was cooked to a fluffy perfection, smothered with creamery-fresh butter goodness. The garlic bread was okay fare.
Flat Iron Steak is marinated and charbroiled to order. It was a hearty, flavorful cut of beef with a perfect char on it. The portion size was just right. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very smooth but needed help in the flavor department. A baked potato would be my first choice next time.
WOW NEVER DISAPPOINTING.
I can't believe what "NOT WORTH IT by TeddyWright" wrote. Must not have been this restaurant!!! They have wonderful food and have always had good service. My family has always had a wonderful experience at
the Hungry Bear restaurant. Monday's specials are out of this world. Our family and extended family have eaten at this restaurant for over 17 years.
Not worth it..
I will never return to this place. Their food is terrible and their service was deserving of ZERO TIP. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. We started off ordering their Deep Fried Shrimp appetizer and it did not taste good. It tasted like frozen shrimp that was just heated up. Was not fresh tasting at all and the sauce that it came with was twice as bad. It had a gross mechanical after taste. We didn't even eat more than a couple pieces of shrimp. When our entrees finally came, both of our burger meat also did not taste fresh and tasted like it was cheap frozen patties that you buy in bulk. The fries were just the same. They were over cooked and also seemed to be frozen fries that you just heat up. None of it was fresh tasting or quality food at all.
The waitress was not friendly since the moment she first came to take our drink order. When she came to drop off our drinks, napkins and silverware, she bumped my boyfriends menu and didn't even apologize! She was so rude! Everything about this place was terrible and I will definitely not return to this place.
Outstanding Fish-n-Chips. Simply the best fish and chips I have found in a long while...not the thin, mostly batter junk one often has to endure. Located on the N.W. corner of Bastanchury Rd. and Harbor Blvd. in Fullerton.
YUM YUM!!!. I have been going to eat at this restaraunt for over 15 yrs and my husband even longer. We are never dissappointed. The food is great and inexpensive!!! and the service is fast!. Yes - you should get there early, before 5pm, if you want a seat right away. Otherwise, you will wait for a seat.
steaks and homecooking. I love this place. It's a great family steak house and the prices are reasonable. I always order the Speciality Steak with mushrooms. They're mushrooms are the best! They have a reasonable childrens menu too. It's a small family type restaurant. There is usally a wait after 5 pm, so get there early or you will probably wait for 15 minutes. They have a good selection of daily special items from different steaks to ribs to chicken. Their service is fast too. I would highly recommend it.
Casual Dining. I discovered this restaurant about a year ago and usually go at least once a month. Service is always good. I usually order the Specialty Steak with baked potato. That fills me up! Sometimes there is a wait. However, the meal is worth the wait for this restaurant. How many times have you seen people actually wait to be seated for lunch during the week (except for exclusive places in Hollywood and Beverly Hills)?
