Wonderful Southern Italy Cooking.
I saw a "Kitchen Nightmares" show featuring this restaurant. Gordon Ramsey made some suggestions and the unbelievably explosive family situation seems to have been resolved.
My wife and I decided to check it out.
I have eaten in "family" Italian Restaurants all over the U.S. I have come to the conclusion that the best way to "test" the Chef is to try a basic sauce and something that is definitely prepared from scratch on site.
I ordered the Spaghetti Marinara and my wife ordered a Sausage dish.
The Marinara Sauce was exquisite, perhaps the best I have had in 50 years.
It is difficult to rate the Sausage. The usual scale is too low. The Sausage has a fresh, mildly spiced, taste--like it was made by a loving Momma!
I went back and ordered Linguine Putanesca. I enjoyed this dish for years at "Carmines" in Beverly Hills, and thought that I would never it's equal anywhere. Chef Luigi has done it! I paid over $30 the last time I had the dish in Beverly Hills. At lunch, in Luigi's I enjoyed an equally exquisite dish for $10. This is remarkable!
I met Luigi, the Chef, and his wife, Grace, and they were warm and friendly.
You must go to "Luigi's d'itaglia!
Lunch okay, Dinner NO!. Okay I went here for lunch 3 times and liked the food. Then i decided to take my girlfriend there in the evening and have a dinner. The food was not as good for some reason and I had the same thing. The girlfriend got boiled chicken with her dish and it was tough. The main thing that got to us was they decided to clean some sink in the back with BLEACH and the smell was coming out to where people were eating. I told them and they did manage to get a door opened and air it out. But that pretty much killed the meal. Also it was noisy there is almost no barrier between the kitchen and people eating so you hear all the banging and noise. The lights were all on just like lunch time. I think these guys need to make it a little more romantic in the evening and not have a lunch dinner for evenings. I was very disappointed and the girlfriend did not like it either. I don't think I will go back for lunch either now after that. Go to the Olive garden if you want good food, not here. Might be ok for a lunch though
It just got Ramsified --Gordon Ramsey visited here and redid. This has got to be the best kept secret in Anaheim. Seems Gordon Ramsey himself just made over this restaurant for an upcoming episode of Kitchen Nightmares. It is so GOOD and so cheap. You feel like you are dining in Italy, not State College Blvd. The Pizza is sublime especially now since Ramsey insists all the sausages are hand made. They have the best New York Style Pizza. We also had 1/2 chicken which was unbelievable, moist, and falling off the bone. Really good, FRESH food, and large portions. I visited this place before and it was not all that good. The staff was ver ynice and professional. Also the desserts were out of this world. Hands down the best tiramisu and cannolis. I highly recommend. It is inexpensive and casual. Although the neighborhood is not all that great -- inside the food is unbelievable. Can't wait to go back.
Wonderful food and service. I've been going to Luigi's for years and have found it consistent with great food and service. I take clients, family and friends there as often as I can. : )
Great place for good pizza. They have a good pizza. and the service is just ok. nothing to complaine.nice owners and good bread.
Good Itialian Food. The food there is overall good. The service is quick and friendly. The prices are really good for the food you get.
All Time Favorite Restaurant. Take it from a regular... this place is great. I eat there every Saturday without fail, and though I get the same thing every time... I've been eating there for over 20 years, so I have tried everything, and it's all great. Over time I've found my favorite... Tortellini Fiorentine. I highly recommend it!
EXCELLENT FOOD EXCELLENT SERVICE EXCELLENT PLACE!. LUIGIS D ITALIA IS THE ONLY PLACE IN CALIFORNIA WHERE YOU WILL FIND GREAT TASTING FOOD AT A FAIR PRICE. ONCE YOU SMELL THE SCENTS OF THE GREAT FOOD, IT WILL HAVE YOU DROOLING AND YOU CANT WAIT TO GET YOUR FOOD, IT IS THAT GOOD! THE PIZZA IS GREAT, TRY IT AND YOU WILL BE COMING FOR MORE ATLEAST ONCE A WEEK! IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, THEN YOU DO NOT KNOW ITALIAN PIZZA, THATS FOR SURE (THAT IS NOT AN OPINION, IT IS A FACT!)! ONE OF THE MANY GREAT TASTING DISHES ON THE MENU, IS THE TORTELLINI D' ANGELO. THE TORTELLINI D' ANGELO IS, TORTELLINI (MEAT STUFFED PASTA) WITH AN AMAZING TASTING TOMATO CREAM SAUCE WITH CHICKEN AND MUSHROOMS. IT IS DELICIOUS! WELL, MAKE SURE YOU STOP BY AND TRY THIS PLACE OUT, BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN'T EATEN HERE, YOU SURE ARE MISSING SOMETHING AUTHENTIC! BY THE WAY, THE DESSERTS ARE ALL HOMEMADE!
Avoid at all costs.
The place claims to have NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA. All i have to say about that is HAH!!!
The "Hot Bread" was horrible, and the calamari was like chewing gum and half the place was full of legs and i think they actually gave me a whole squid. When our main course had arrived
we let it cool for a bit because it was very hot.. i guess they like overcooking things at this place.
My chicken parm was horrible but i was starving so i had forced myself to finish about half of it. My wife ordered the Chicken Picata and that was also horrible, She gave me a little piece of hers as we tasted each others plates and i nearly s p i t it across the room it tasted so bad.. It was supposed to be chicken in white wine sauce and lemon.. the sauce was dark brown... i guess they must have burned it or something who knows at this place, it was LOADED with garlic. Trust me the food is horrible at this place. A couple next to us ordered a pizza and they barley ate two slices.. When the waitress asked us if we wanted to Box up our remaining meals.. which was almost what was placed infront of us to begin with, we both laughed and said NO!!!
How can you claim to be an "Italian resturant with New York style pizza" when you have mexicans who just crossed the border cooking. We should have left right away when we saw them cooking.
Trust me i am from Brooklyn, NY and this place has food nothing like it, you would be better eating at McDonalds then this place.
Highly recommended, especially for the value.. Luigi's is the type of family-owned place that I'm more than happy to patronize, to the point that when I'm hungry for Italian it's tough to go anywhere else. The quality of the ingredients and the recipes are all top-notch, with rich, complex flavors. The goings on in the kitchen are front-and-center when you walk through the front door and they clearly put a great deal of care into the quality of the food. One quibble is that the menu isn't very diverse -- it's more the American perception of Italian food (lots of tomato and cream sauces) rather than an actual general representation of Italian food, so don't go looking for polenta or risotto. Also, the bread and salad that they serve as starters are instantly forgetable.
