The barbecue sauce at this SoCal institution makes for a tasty--and messy-- experience for grown-ups and children alike.. In Short Dubbed "home of the live wood fire," this small family restaurant chain was started in 1940 in the city of Lynwood. Families, groups and hungry locals dine amid the dark wood benches and occasional bits of sawdust on the floor. The meaty menu includes entrees such as steak, chicken, and slabs of ribs slathered in a thick, rich sauce. There are also sandwiches, shrimp dishes, spaghetti and a handful of sides like baked potato and sweet barbecue beans.
