The park's three-mile beach is a camping-friendly oasis in suburbia. Its proximity to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve--a wetlands habitat supporting fish, birds and other creatures, makes Bolsa Chica seem miles from civilization--though it is deep in Los Angeles basin sprawl. A popular place for surf fishing, barehanded grunion catching during their summer spawns also occurs here.
