In Short
The wilds of Orange County are on display at gorgeous O'Neill Regional Park, situated in rustic Trabuco and Live Oak Canyons. Encompassing 3,100 acres, it serves as both an overnight campground and a family-oriented picnic/day-hike center with tables, barbecue grills, a large turf area, horseshoe pits and children's playground equipment. Equestrian-minded guests are encouraged to take advantage of the horse campground and arena with its 18 miles of scenic riding trails.

It's a sweet little coastal scrub canyon, but we didn't have a very good stay there. If you don't mind listening to guys run their generators from eight in the morning until ten at night, it's your kind of place. But I don't go camping to listen to generators. I'd like to hear the birds and have *some* quiet. The ranger knew nothing about the trails. I was told that he only works there weekends so he doesn't know anything about it. The gals in the nature center were quite nice volunteers, but also not knowledgeable about the trails. Also, there are "no intoxicants" allowed in the park, so if you want to have a beer or a glass of wine, you'd be a rule breaker.
