In Short – Whether in a bowl, smothered over fries or stuffed inside an omelet, Charlie's chili is a perfect blend to end an evening at the Newport Pier. Settle into a cozy booth at this historic joint and order up some comfort all day and late into the night. In summer, Charlie's tends to extend their hours to a 2am or even 3am closing, but these hours aren't set in stone, so call ahead.
HOW TO LOSE A CUSTOMER IN 5-MINUTES
by Cammer
Ok students, today we are going to learn how to win a customer in 45-minutes and in the same turn how to lose them in 5-minutes. Today’s subject: Charlie’s Chili at 102 McFadden Place in Newport Beach. Many of you know this place as it sits next to the Newport Beach Pier. You probably have eaten there as well and for good reason – they do have great food.
All’s I know is that Charlie is not as friendly as he appears on his website. If I were Charlie, as cool of a restaurant as he has, the people eating there are what make it cool. By my estimate there were less than 100 people eating in and outside of Charlie’s. Would it have been too much to ask to mingle with your customers – find out how their experience at the restaurant has been – and oh by the way do you happen to drive a certain make and model car?
I only have 2000 characters to make my point. There is an important lesson to learn. This day of viral marketing, Yelp and YouTube we all have to go that extra 10%, to WOW our customers, even at a grease pit like Charlie’s in Newport Beach. Delicious breakfast all day!

Great ocean view patio which is dog friendly and great people watching. I love the breakfast which you can order any time of day, also the chili and cornbread is yummy. Inside there's plasma t.v.s - it's casual and homey. The service is friendly and good.
- Pros: Divine banana pancakes
Horrible Service
by NewportLover
Charlie Chili's has been a favorite of mine and my husbands for years. This Mother's Day (2009,) we went for breakfast for my "special day". My husband asked the patio-waitress for a refill of coffee, and she went ballistic! She yelled across the courtyard and said she was the only one working outside. We thought that was bizarre, but nothing prepared us for her running, yes running to our table and throwing our food at us. I told her I would like to speak with her manager and she just laughed. She said their was no manager on site. She was right. I went inside and was told by all the staff that they do not have a manager on site. I left my name, number and email address, but no one has every contacted me. I have asked around the Newport area and have been told by other restaurant owners that they have heard a lot of complaints lately about the waitresses. Food is great, service is horrible!
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Rude Waitress
