I rated this place average because it is really just your average Newport bar...but I went here for the first time on Valentine's Day (or Singles Awareness Day, whichever you prefer) with a girlfriend of mine because she said they have $4.50 mojitos on Thursdays. What a great deal! Every Thursday is "Burrito & Mojito NIght" and the prices cannot be beat. The bartenders are pretty good, and the atmosphere is fun, but of course it depends on the crowd, which seems to vary. I did not try their food but from what I saw it looked good. There's lots going on there, always seems to be some sort of contest (last time my friend was there, they had a spicy gumbo eating contest!). I'm going back this Thursday, we're making it a weekly outing. :)

My sister-in-law planned a party for my brother's 30th birthday and chose to take a limo to Sharkeez in Newport Beach because they had advertised their party services for large groups. Parties are supposed to get reserved seating, appetizers, and 2 for 1 drinks. Out of all that, all we got was the appetizers. My sister-in-law brought in a party of 30 people and all they gave us was rudeness. There was one tiny table with like 8 chairs for us. We never got any drink service, and when we went to the bar they would not give us the 2 for 1 drinks because we weren't ordering from the table!! One of the security guards (Hector) was very insulting and actually asked my husband if he wanted to fight. After an hour, the security guards came and starting taking our table away to make room for dancing. I asked this security guard if we could get a booth because we had a reserved party of over 30 people with only one tiny table. Instead of asking the manager about this, he got angry and told me "I don't need your f***ing attitude. I'm doing my job!" He just continued his tirade so I asked if he could bring the manager over to discuss the table situation. My husband heard how he was talking to me and told him that he had no right talking to me that way. Security guard Hector asked my husband if he wanted to "take it outside". After threatening my husband, he called the other security guards and said we were causing trouble. The manager finally came, and he did not apologize for his horrible employee and customer service, but demanded that my husband apologize to security guard Hector for asking him to have some respect! Needless to say, we called the limo and left right then. I cannot believe that a business would willingly ruin a chance to get the money of such a large group! None of us were being drunken troublemakers or causing any problems. Don't ever try to plan a special event with Sharkeez in Newport Beach because they will make it horrible if they feel like it!
Pros: At least we got appetizers
Cons: Worst experience at a bar in my life!!!
