What People Are Saying About Joe's Crab Shack-Newport Beach

In Short – Admittedly kitschy, unavoidably noisy, this Red Lobster for rug rats is like an oversized seaside shanty awash in oceanic memorabilia--fishing nets, souvenir trinkets, plastic flotsam and jetsam. Staffed with a lively crew of G-rated table-dancing servers, the family-friendly chain anchors its menu in all things crab: Crab balls, crab cakes, crab dip, crab gumbo. Finicky children opt for corndogs or hamburgers; shellfish-phobic adults dine on rib eye steak or mesquite-grilled chicken.
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- Discounted menus are offered for seniors, students and large groups.
- Know Before You Go:
- You may want to bring some extra cash to buy a tie-dyed T-shirt or an irreverent pair of boxer shorts from the gift shop.
bad management!

Very bad experience. Manager Amber Rider was rude. Won't ever go back again. Atmosphere like a freak show, stop to sing/dance every 15 min, had fake bride and groom ceremony etc. Creepy! Crab Nachos were soggy so we asked to have them taken off our bill and ordered a more expensive item ($30 crab bucket) in its place since since my son was still hungry. The manager Amber Rider refused to take nachos off and would only give me half credit for the nachos stating it was their corporate policy. So I canceled the crab bucket and went to In and Out Burger. My first clue should have been that Crab Shack parking lot and restaurant was empty on a Friday night and the restaurants next to it (Rusty Pelican , Chart house etc) were packed! Our tab was $90 for 4 of us, apparently they would rather loose a customer over $10 and aren't interested in making their customers happy. Spend your money some where else!!
Different... ok...

This place is ok... it was great when I was younger... but now, it's a little hectic. most of the food is fried - too much for me. For people who like fried food, it's a good place to go... it's VERY heavy food. If you have people in town, it's a good place to take them because it's different... but... they don't take reservations... so you'll have to wait.

A few years ago this place had a great menu, good food and was lots of fun. Went last week and will never go back. It's no better than Chuckie Cheese.
Never Again!

We went to Joe's Crab Shack for a birthday party recently. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. People in our party received their food any where from 8pm (first) to 9:15 (last). The food was lousy, except for the crab which was o.k. The service was a joke. Our waiter, Andrew, actually tried to flirt with a couple attractive women in our party who were there with their husbands. At 10 pm I gratefully exited this tacky, loud establishment and took a breath of much needed fresh air. I would not eat there again if you paid me to.
- Pros: View
- Cons: Loud; mediorce food; poor service
Great views, good bar, ok food, poor service

We went to Joe's with another family and had a nice time on a busy Friday night. The setting is good for kids and the views are outstanding with the harbor steps away. Our cocktails were excellent, the food ok and the service poor. All were in line with the expections that we had going in. Good spot for a busy family type dinner with kids.
