DIRTY SILVERWARE = DISGUSTING.
The food and service at Macaroni Grill used to be great, but the last several times we have attempted to eat there we noticed dried food on the silverware. When we brought this to the attention of the manager, he said, "Most people don't notice small specks of food like that on silverware so this isn't really a problem." I said, "that is disgusting," and we left.

Performing chefs cook up rustic, home-style Italian entrees at this buzzing family restaurant..
In Short
A boisterous, all-ages crowd of pasta lovers pack this energetic Italian spot, where chefs clad in white hats and red scarves keep diners wide-eyed by showing their moves in the busy open kitchen. The menu boasts family-sized portions of hearty traditional fare, from antipasti, chicken and pasta dishes to seafood, steak and wood-fired pizzas. Signature plates include grilled pork chops, lobster ravioli, and penne rustica with shrimp, grilled chicken and smoked prosciutto in cream sauce.

Good pasta, under average meat dishes.
They serve good pasta at a good price, with accompanying salad. Bread is good too. So, the place iis often crowded, with noisy swarming children until 9:00 p.m.
I ordered grilled pork chops and my wife Chicken Sorento.
They were grilled OK, but were drenched in soy sauce and sugar, a la Teriyaki, that is, a poor imitation Teriyaki.
Who wants to eat third-rate Japanese food at an Italian joint?
Skip the Romano's Macaroni Grill until they hire Italian chefs.

Special Orders Extra Charge.
The first time I went to a Romano's Macaroni Grill I had their salmon with capers. I thought it was very good so I had it a few more times on future visits. A year or so ago, I was at the Macaroni Grill at Jamboree Road in Irvine. That branch did not have the salmon with capers or the restaurant probably stopped serving it. So I ordered their Dover sole, I believe it was, and requested to have them cook it with capers. They gladly accomodated me at NO extra charged. I've also done this type of request at PF Chang's. PF Chang's used to have this very tasty catfish dish called Paul's Catfish. Basically, it was catfish cooked in black bean sauce. They stopped serving this dish early on but whenever I go to PF Chang's I always order this and they would always accomodate me without extra charge. Now we come to Romano's Macaroni Grill in Aliso Viejo. I was there with my friend last Saturday for lunch. As usual, we enjoyed their calamari and their chardonnay for starters. But when I requested to have my salmon cooked with capers, they said they would do it for an additional $ 7! Well, I guess it's their restaurant. But, man, we were practically the only people there from 11:30am to 1pm. They could have accomodated us.
Good thing I had their chocolate cake to console me. :(
