Tips for Newport Landing

November 22, 2012

The tour was two and half hours long and simply the best. The Captain kept us informed of our surroundings and his movie LOL We saw dolphins, baby dolphins and whales.I would definitely recommend this boating company and we will be adveturing out again with them on our next trip out to California!!!

Me and my son enjoyed this very much. He said that it was the best ride he had ever been on in his life.

The deck hands were very courteous and friendly. The captain provided a wealth of knowledge about the whales and dolphins. I can hardly wait to watch the dvd!

Well, we did see whales--gray whales to be exact. :) Our tour spent about an hour, or a little more, viewing at least 3 gray whales (maybe there were 5) coming up for air and flapping their flukes--no fluke! (I couldn't resist!) Several times we were able to view their barnacle-encrusted backs as they swam along the surface. This was so amazing, especially for my friend who for the first time got to see whales in real life! We had such a wonderful experience!

The trip lasted for 2.5 hours. We were never bored on board. Ha! The ride was relatively smooth, not overly crowded (it was mid-morning on a Friday), and the captain of the boat was quite knowledgeable.

I look forward to paying Newport Landing a visit next winter when migration is in full swing once again. There is plenty of dining, drinking and family fun in the area making this a great place to spend any afternoon in southern CA.

After one visit yes I'm already a fan! During migration is definitely the best time to go whale watching. Do your research people and you'll know this. We were stoked when we realized that this season there have been record numbers of whales and dolphins spotted off the coast of southern CA. We were sure our whale watching trip would not be a bust.
