Tips for Balboa Inn

February 20, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights. Such a convenient location & a nice, bright airy room with a great big soaking tub & a cute little balcony with an ocean view.

Just wanted to take a moment to write a review about this terrrifc hotel! It's great for anyone! We are Orange County residents and only live 15 minutes away from Newport, but we wanted to stay on the beach near our favorite beach! We couldn't have chosen a better hotel! The staff was super friendly and made us feel VERY welcome! Our rooms were clean and roomy for our family of 6! We all had a blast walking around town, sampling all the great food both at the hotel and at adjacent restaurants! We plan on going back again soon! It's nice to have a hotel close to home that offers such great hospitality in such an amazing location! Even if I didn't live close by, I'd recommend traveling to Balboa Inn from anywhere.! The beaches are fantastic and GREAT for kids (there's even a huge playground right on the sand just steps away), you can walk or bike to all your entertainment, and the resort is beautiful. Some rooms are older and some are new so be sure to let them know if you have a preference! Go enjoy.... we did!!!!!

We had our wedding at the Balboa Inn and at the end of the night my husband and I both agreed there was not one thing we would have changed. The hotel is old, it was built in the 20's so people looking for a brand new state of the art Hyatt are not going to find what they are looking for here. The architecture is charming, the hotel is very well kept up, the room we had was fantastice, and most importantly the hotel was a very memorable back drop for our wedding ceremony and reception. I wanted a place that reminded me of Old California and this place was it! The location is perfect, the food was terrific, service was terrific, and everybody that came up to us had wonderful compliments for our wedding and the hotel. We plan to go back once the addition is done and spend out first anniversary there! All in all it was a very unique, memorable, event, at a very unique and charming place!

The location is perfect; a short walk to the beach and a variety of places to eat. The staff is friendly and helpful. We read some reviews that claimed otherwise, as well as the hotel being dirty, but we did not find it so. The area is a famous destination for travelers, as well as popular with southern ca residents, so some noise is to be expected, but, although we like quiet, we did not have any trouble sleeping or enjoying ourselves. There are a lot of negative reviews of the Balboa Inn, and they almost scared us away, but we decided to see for ourselves and are glad we did.

My business partner and I stay at the Balboa Inn Hotel several times each year while consulting for nearby clients. We heard about this great Newport Beach oceanfront hotel from a client and decided to try it. In the past, we have stayed at other Orange County hotels. We were pleasantly surprised when we stayed at this historic hotel for the first time. Our business keeps us on the road over 65% of the year, and we usually stay at a chain hotel since it is easy and you normally know what you are getting.

Since we stay for at least one week during each trip, we appreciate that they have larger rooms with living areas and a refrigerator. The rooms are clean, well-kept and have a nice old world charm. There is a small daily fee for the wireless internet access, but it is well worth it. Where else can you work while overlooking the ocean from a 2nd floor outdoor patio?

We never have to go far to when entertaining our client's as the hotel has a wonderful on-site Italian restaurant Siena. The chef is wonderful as it the entire staff...they are all friendly and genuine.

I am so glad that we found the Balboa Inn Hotel, and will continue to return for business and pleasure!

I used to live in the area and like to come back every so often. I love to stay at the Balboa Inn. The staff is so friendly, they have a continental breakfast in the morning and the location is awsome. I usually go to stay one night but I end up staying 2 because I just don't ever want to leave.

I strongly recommend staying there when you're in the Newport Beach area.

My husband decided to surprise me for a nice getaway to Newport Beach and we stayed at this hotel. We absolutely LOVED it! The rooms were amazing and the view was breath taking! One thing that I really loved about the rooms is that they were super clean compared to most hotel rooms. If you stay here you definitely need to have a balcony view! They also offer free continental breakfast for those light eaters and everything you need is in walking distance.

I first saw the Balboa inn in 1965 I was 11 years old and it impressed me, sleepy old hotel on the beach, open air courtyard, beautiful architecture. My other half and I could not get our time share at Capistrano beach at Dana point so I said let's go to Balboa inn and watch the people.

And what a great place to do that and not be at Venice beach or Santa Monica where the crime is.

Our stay in 7/2011 was great, yes the beach is busy and there is a parking lot across from the hotel fun to look at the cars and people come to the beach and play. Music at the bar and everyone having a great time on the walkway. It is that time of year and it was busy and that is what we came to see. No trains, coast highway traffic, no walkway over the highway like Capistrano and we love Capistrano also. The room in the new resort was clean, great view of the pier, valet parking in a secure lot and the staff was great, The nights get quiet enough to hear the surf in the room.

So 8/2012 we had to come back, and our stay was AWESOME one more time :) The beach is not near as busy, quiet nights, and people to watch in the daytime. Again the staff and room were great, beautiful sunsets and all kinds of food, the Italian restaurant food is the best.. Our choice is to stay on the new side resort on the sand and worth every penny spent. Huge spa and a small one as well to warm up after the cold water on the beach.

It was a perfect location for fun. On the beach, next to a pier, shopping, resteraunts, bike rentals, they had a big spa like pool, only 30 min from Disneyland.
