Never Going To the Balboa Saloon!!!!. Well after ordering a pitcher of beer, i waited patientely for the two bartenders working a saturday night fourth of july to return my credit card. Understandably busy I went and sat down figuring I'd just pick it up later. Well after about another half hour ready to go home, having to work in the morning I went back to bear the madness of the bar in order to retrieve my credit card. After a good ten minutes I had a friend show up next to me wondering what was taking so long, at this point I have to admit I'm pretty frustrated so I reach out and grab the end of the bartenders sleeve.......... wow this was definitely a NO no in bartender world as I soon found out the balding man nearly bit my arm off then and there. Takes one look at my waiting drivers license and proceeds to inform me that it'll be a "good long time before I get my card back," and " that the cops are on their way." Yeah wow, this is what I get trying to get my card back at that Balboa Saloon. He then proceeded to get the bouncer to escort me out, which I must say was the real low point, at 115 pounds work on balboa island never been a part of such an altercation before, I find myself being escorted out sans credit card like a common criminal by the bouncer. At this point I'm embarassed to say I did call 911 after this incident while riding the ferry back to balboa island. The woman who answered the phone asked my emergency and I honestly said I really don't have a emergency but this is what happened to me and I proceeded to relay pretty much what was I just said. The woman told me I should go back to the saloon and she would have an officer there shortly. And so I made the return trip, paid another two dollars to get back to the peninsula located the officer and gave her my drivers license, so that she could then proceed to find the balding ba$tard who couldn't just give me my credit card back in the first place. The one who threatenend that he would be filing charges against me. He then returns with a credit card charge for thirty dollars. Since when does a pitcher of beer cost thirty dollars? The officer writes in 17.50 for me which now in aftermath seems pretty expensive also, but I sign for that with a big fat zero for tip and a nice your not welcome at the saloon again, which I must say I really won't lose sleep over. The officer proceeded to tell me that they have quite a few charges pending against the saloon and are in fact in the midst of shutting them down and advises me to not revisit the location again. I must say that really would not be at all a loss, I would visit the class of 47 or cabo cantina over the saloon any day. In fact I would go out of my way so as not to ever set foot in that bar again, and strongly urge other partons to do the same. Yes I felt the need to write this huge long paragraph and bash these a$$holes, after all I really wanted to do was get my credit card back.
Worst Customer Service EVER!!!!!!!!!.
I live in LA and was visiting a friend in Newport about 2 months ago. I went to the Saloon and surprisingly walked in to find an empty bar on a Saturday night. Whatever it may be, me and my 10+ group of friends decided to grace them with our presence [and if that wasn't good enough, our wallets]. After asking for 2 Coors Lights and trying to bring the dead beat bar alive, we decided to get our tabs. To my dismay, surprise, and concern the bartender ever-so-eloquently (sarcasm) brings a blank piece of receipt paper over, puts it down in front of me, takes a moment to think, and jots down an arbitrary $22.50 for my bar tab. I asked for an itemized receipt which I was refused...after I questioned the price of 2 Coors Light drafts I was rudely insulted and talked down to, "ya know what I do when I don't wanna pay my bar tab...I don't sign it and I don't pay for it...". I told both bartenders, who were now both verbally attacking me, that I insisted on paying for my 2 beers. They refused and before I could sign anything, I was ripped away from the bar and literally carried out of the bar (I'm glad I only had the 2 beers b/c if I was drunk it would have got a lot more violent at this point).
THEN, when I was looking through my bank statements last month, I found that they illegally charged me for the full account of items I didn't purchase WITHOUT MY SIGNATURE of approval on the receipt.
It gets even worse...when I called the owner to try to salvage the situation he insulted, questioned, and called the me "ridiculous and annoying", an obvious sign that he either participates in and/or condone the unethical activities the bartenders partake in.
The situation is now under investigation with my bank's fraud department, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE IF YOU'RE READING THIS DON'T CONDONE THIS ACTIVITY BY SUPPORTING THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!!
Tis' the bomb.. Oh, mi God. This is the best bar ever! I go there all the time. It's a great place to kick back and relax, but also have a great time! I love it!
