French 75 Bistro (in Newport Beach?s Fashion Island) is a pretty restaurant with good food and service. They are part of a group of restaurants called Culinary Adventures that owns, among others, French 75 in Laguna, as well a Savannah Chop House in Laguna Niguel.
We had Sunday brunch there with Jessica?s pals on the way to Las Vegas to continue her 21st birthday celebration.
They had a nice buffet with a New Orleans type Jazz band. There just wasn?t enough because there weren?t many patrons. The French Toast was the highlight food of the morning. The rest was marginal.
I heard they may be going broke. I have no idea if that is true, but do know that we used to patronize these two restaurants and stopped because of poor service and attitude.
yumm!. My husband and I visited on Friday night and I had the saffron risotto rice with seabass. It was sooo delicious! I ate my entire plate! The prices were a little steep but good for special occassions.
Delightful Ambience. The ambience is wonderful. Also, the food is amazing. The prices are kind of high, but not too bad. The lighting is wonderful and everything is great at French 75. Its location is great. The parking is rather bad during lunch though.
Bubbly Hour!. The best happy hour in Newport. They have half price champagne cocktails, which are soooo good! Great atmosphere too! The chocolate soufle is to die for as well!!!!
Bubbly Hour a Bust.
French 75's so called Bubbly Hour is misleading, deceiving and very EXPENSIVE. You're lured there with the promise of the following:
50% off all signature champagne cocktails
20 wines by the Carafe for glass prices
Complimentary hors d'orves
So my friends and I decide to check out the bubbly hour at the bistro in Burbank thinking we can drink some good champagne fairly cheap until 7p.m.
Well, we find out that there is no champagne by glass available. You can only order champagne cocktails. If you want a glass of champagne they would be more than happy to serve you sparkling wine. Since I'm not a fan of "sparkling wine" I decided to order a carafe of chardonnay. The bartender recommended a buttery wine which sounded good to me. What a surprise when the carafe came it was the size of a tiny vase. Plus, I only got one glass out of it. The carafe looked like something that the left-over from a martini would be served in. What really sent me over the edge was when I opened the menu and discovered that wine the bartender recommended was $16.75 per glass. This poor excuse for a carafe cost me almost $17.00. So in actuality, at French 75 a carafe of wine is really just a glass of wine
And the complimentary hors d'orves a waiter came around with a tray of brie and carmelized onions and some really gross quiche. Once. That was it.
This place is total rip off. Bubbly hour!!! A bubbly bust!!!!!
Probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to!. This is quite possibly the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I am usually skeptical of user reviews but I found it extremely shocking that the Citysearch reviewer liked this restaurant. Does he even know what he's talking about? How would a restaurant reviewer confuse artisanal cheese with artesian cheese? The latter does not even exist, unless I've missed out on some new cutting edge cheese coming from wells. Regardless, here's a summary of my experiences (been to the Century City location twice). 1) I didn't really like the bottled iced tea. Not only was it bland, I view selling bottled iced tea as a pathetic way for the restaurant to try to upsell high mark-up items. 2) The bread is not ciabatta (which is Italian anyway). Why would any serious French bistro serve ciabatta? Additionally, the "tapenade" they serve the bread with is not tapenade. It was an aoli with olives in it. Not very tasty. When I asked the waiter, he informed me that French 75 was a French-"American" bistro. That's a pretty shoddy excuse and doesn't justify serving something that is neither French nor American. 3) The prices are very expensive given the quality of the food. For instance, Steak Frites sets you back around $28. The quality of the steak is poor, and you can get steak frites at much better restaurants in LA for $18-24. 4) The Butter Lettuce Salad was OK, but the leaves were not dried, leaving me with lots of water in my salad. I also thought it was interesting that the dressing on the salad had tarragon in it. There was no mention of that on the menu. For such a complex flavor, one would think of mentioning it on the menu. 5) The service was awful. It's bad for a restaurant to have good but overbearing servers, it's another to have servers that are just plain bad and still overbearing. This restaurant is a major disappointment. I don't know why this David Wilhelm person would ever attach his name to such a place. How embarassing!
Great chocolate souffle & service. We went to their new location in century city mall. Everything except the mac & cheese was delicious. The chocolate souffle was really yummy. Food was a bit on the pricey side but service was excellent.
Nice Surprise. I went here for the first time for drinks and apps with my boyfriend. I was pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar for "Bubbly Hour" had champagne cocktails and appetizers. The bartenders were exceptional and very friendly. I loved to food we had. I was really blown away by the atmosphere!! We had a great time and were sorry we had dinner plans somewhere else. We will definitely be back!
Excellent dinner. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and wine on December 29. Attentive service, savory dinner, and extraordinary dessert (Chocolate Soufflé).
This hip Parisian Bistro in the heart of Newport Beach features traditional French cuisine in a chic and inviting atmosphere..
Tucked into the center of Newport Beach's Fashion Island shopping complex, this restaurant isn't easily found but it is worth the hunt. Deep red walls with dark wood and leather furniture create a Euro-chic environment. Parisian posters and artifacts add a sense of authenticity as people of all ages order drinks at the L-shaped bar. Friendly and attentive servers provide excellent service without hovering.
The menu consists of traditional French bistro, dazzled with California flare. Appetizers like gooey French onion soup and the artesian cheese plate are winners. Pan-fried trout is rolled in hazelnuts and topped with a delicious brown butter sauce and the duck three ways combines a perfectly roasted breast, tender confit and seared foie gras. For dessert, try the chocolate souffle served with cointreau whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
