Tips for Cheng, John, Md - South Coast Medical Group

October 11, 2012

Dr. John Cheng is something very rare these days. He is a doctor who actually cares about his patients & follows up to make sure all is well. He takes a practical approach and his diagnostic skills are excellent. I have been his patient for several years and would highly recommend him to everyone.

Love this clinic!. This is a walk-in clinic, so there is never the hassle of waiting for an appointment. That being said, sometimes the wait can be longer than other times, but in general it has been fine. I've always felt like they've given me the very best care. Today I left a message for the doctor and was called back within the hour. I highly recommend this clinic.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Unless you want to wait a very long time for poor service.

This medical office is very poorly organized. There is supposed to be a system where people sign in, and are taken in turn. However, the staff does not adhere to that system. They will let their favorites go ahead of you in line. You will wait for a very long time. The only Doctor that is any good at this office is Dr. Cheng, but you will have to wait even longer to see him. Any of the other doctors, I would be very suspect of where they got their medical degrees. On a previous visit, after waiting two hours, the doctor told me that he could not look into the problem I was having with my arm, because they had to pick up their kid from the babysitter, and he left. Again, only go to this office if you want to wait a long time for very poor service.

Dr. Tran Saved My Life, the best experience you could ask fo. In 2006, I experience some pain in my right breast, I thought nothing of it but saw Dr. Tran anyhow, he insisted on a diagnostic Mamogram even though I was only 46 years old, I couldn't feel any lumps nor could he, but he must have had a feeling, so I had the mamogram and sure enough there it was a tumor had grown enough to have started to spread it was growing as they say fingers and spreading it was ductal carcinoma. Stage one, he sent me to DR Lisa Curcio and I am now a 4 year Breast cancer Survivor, Thank you so much to DR .Tran for SAVING MY LIFE and DR Cheng and his WONDERFUL STAFF always friendly and caring, all follow ups are looked forward to seeing the staff and all the beauiful smiling faces GO GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worst patient care and follow up I have every recieved.. I reciently had an annual physical at this office. I have never been so dissatified with the compentancy of service and follow up. I did not get a complete explaination of my test, I did not get results of some of my test, and I recieved phone calls to come in for follow up appointments for Test I did not even have there. I called to try and get my results my self and I was told that the doctor went over everything with me because that is what he had written in his notes, this is and untrue statement. Dr. Cheng will not personally call me to discuss my disatisfaction in fact he told his staff he was insulted that I question him. Well when you have a CAT scan and the doctor tells you that you have mulphal noduals on your lungs and does not explain what this count mean, just says we will have you get another CAT scan in six months. Well I went myself to the Lab and got a copy of the report and the report had alot more to say. Ovisiously Dr. Cheng did not read the complete report, it stated I have noduals on my lungs, kidneys, pancreous as well. So I had to take my well being into my own hands and go and get answers.

Great if you're looking to not feel better!. Dr. Sunshine - yes that's his real name - was very pleasant. The problem was that he was more interested in trying to get me to use home remedies or other over the counter items when I really needed antibiotics. I had an extreme infection in both ears, which I mentioned and his assistant checked, but he decided it wasn't that bad and I should use a nasal rinse and take some sudafed. Who knows what that has to do with my ears. Well, that didn't make a dent in my problem, as I am susceptible to sinust infections and decided to see a doctor before it got worse. Dr. Sunshine asked me if I smoked and then asked if I had Asthma. I told him I don't smoke and I don't have asthma. He said that only people that have issues such as mine are people who smoke or have asthma. I was floored he would insinuate I was lying. Had I been in better health I would have spoken up, but I just let it go. I went to the store (3 actually before I could find the nasal rinse he wanted me to purchase) spent a bunch of money, and purchased the myriad of items he recommended in hopes that he was right.

Well, he wasn't. In fact my ear infection was so bad the next day that I couldn't even take myself to the doctor. I was in horrible pain and disoriented. The doctor I went to see was Dr. Sims of South County Family Medical - not to be confused with South Coast Medical Group. Dr Sims was fantastic. I highly recommend that facility.
