Citysearch Editorial Review. This stylish, upscale gastropub in Old Towne Orange is dark and moody, conjuring up London’s modern food-centric watering holes. Lots of wood and stone help build an inviting atmosphere, though the other side of the pond may not feature potted orchids or well-groomed surfer girls. The hard-to-find beer list is impressive, with about 15 revolving on tap ranging from the ethereal (Humboldt Hemp Ale) to fruity (St. Lois Peche) to old school (Guiness Stout). Bottled beer also offers compelling labels like gluten-free Bard’s Gold Sorghum Beer, Blanche de Bruxelles and Trappistes Rochefort 10 Quadrupel. The “bar menu” takes itself darn seriously, focusing on local and seasonal ingredients. Grilled peaches with burrata are accented with tarragon and smoked sea salt; beer battered squash blossoms with lobster and goat cheese and a smoked duck salad with micro-herbs and flowers make a California statement. But drinkers need not fear--classics like shepherd’s pie, burgers, pork chops and steak also abound on the expansive menu. But we’ve gotta warn ya, the mac n’ cheese has black truffles, and the ice cream is candied bacon.
