famous taco loco. It was okay even after a long night out. I have been a few times and they definitely like to blacken everything... i recommend the nachos. You cant really go wrong with those. its open late which is good and plenty of eye candy in the day of you know what i mean.
Food's great, but service... Not so much....
I've been going to Taco Loco for years and absolutely love their food! Unfortunately the last few times I've been we (my friends and I) have had some of the worst service. A young waitress with lots of piercings and dreadlocks is the one to watch out for. She is quite possibly the rudest woman I've met working in the food industry. She is not only mean, she is stuck up and acts like she's too good to be serving food. I even saw her making fun of a customer once! What happened to the lovable laid-back hippies? She ruined the last few Taco Loco outings that my friends and I have had. I cannot believe that I left her a tip!
Ok my ranting is done, the food is excellent, so if you dont mind horrible service I say you should check it out!
Check out pasta Wednesdays!. I have been going to Taco Loco for years now, and can always realy on their food. Monday nights they have a deal on the Tofu Mushroom burgers and on Wednesdays you can get pasta which is not normally on the menu. I recommend the Tofu Mushroom or chicken pasta, which is chock full of veggies like broccoli and carrots, with a mystery green sauce. If you are really hungry try the nachos, they are huge and come with real melted cheese not the crappy ballpark kind. The vegan cookies are really good too.. even if you are not vegan.
No real lobster, instead serves shrimp and calls it lobster.. Went here today and ordered the special blackened lobster taco in eager anticipation of a delicious gourmet taco. When I got the taco, I immediately noticed that it was shrimp, not lobster, and both my date and I confirmed it by tasting a shrimp. Neither of us like shrimp and we were looking forward to the lobster, so I brought the taco back to the counter and politely told the guy he'd given me shrimp by accident, at which point he stared blankly at me without looking at the taco and insisted that it was actually lobster. I said to him that I was certain it was shrimp as it was small curly shrimp and tasted 100% like shrimp and nothing like lobster. I have been eating all kinds of lobster all of my life and know the distinct flavor and texture of every type. I was served shrimp (for $8 for a tiny taco!) and was being unapologetically told that I was mistaken. I left baffled. All I can think is either the place told the cashier that the shrimp was lobster, or they assume the people who eat there are too stoned to notice it's tiny shrimp. Either way, I was turned off.
Last Meal!. As my daughter, Maggie, leaves the west coast for a new adventure at SERE school in the Navy, her request was to have her last meal at Taco Loco. Her favorite - mushroom tofu burger. Thanks, Taco Loco, for making it the best!
Laguna Beach stand that's been serving OC's best fish tacos since 1988..
The Scene
All of the tables out front--and the Paul Frank stools inside--are filled with just-off-the-beach surfers, in-the-know locals and curious tourists. The dreadlocked counter guy might interrupt your ordering to sing along with the band on the stereo, but he'll be right back with a smile to ask if you want hot salsa on your tacos.
The Food
It's cheap, fresh, hippie-influenced Mexican food and any dish with the homemade blackening spice is a winner, even the mushroom- or hemp-tofu burgers. The combo seviche is full of fresh, whole shrimp and fish, piquant with chilies and lime juice. Chicken nachos smothered in "everything" are a satisfying meal. Spicy lobster tacos are a bit more expensive, but worth it: Chunks of fresh blackened lobster spills out of corn tortillas. To cut the heat, order a cold beer, sit back and watch the waves roll in across the street.
Best Place!. I LOOOOOOOVE Taco Loco! I take all my out of town friends there on day one! It is the best! The swordfish and lobster tacos are the best ever!
Awesome.
This place is awesome. A true local place to eat. Go on Wednesday and get the Blackened Chicken Pasta... it's only served on that day.
Good stuff.
