Tips for Huntington Beach Coin Exchange

April 12, 2013

Rude. I walked in as a true coin collector since 13. Looked at me and wouldn't give me the time of day. Maybe my look? Showed the worker some coins to check out and basically threw them in my face. I asked to sell a peace dollar, he gave me a price, I stuttered, and replied within .2 seconds "okay then you can go somewhere else". How sweet. Never again! Rather get ripped off by a nice guy...p.s. I literally said 5 words. Judged.

My Best Recommendation. I have been buying items from HB Coin Exchange since 1999. I love this place! I have brought friends here and have recommended it to others, but I admit I hate sharing my secret source for all the great gifts I get here for friends and family. Owner Manny offers newly minted coins and medallions, which make beautiful gifts. The bid board has all kinds of unique items, which also make terrific one-of-a-kind gifts. The prices are incredibly reasonable. Go to any other coin shop, look at the Littleton coin catalog, or go to any coin show and you will see that Manny offers great value at his store.

I do not even understand what David Skier is complaining about. There is a board in the shop that posts the price of gold for the day and the buy and sell prices of various gold & platinum coins. There should be no surprises! Plus, if you don't like the deal offered, then who is forcing you to take it?

I think that Manny is a little shy. Perhaps that is why awalsh8174 thinks he is snooty. As I mentioned, I have been going to this store for years, Manny knows my face. He always greets me and acknowledges me as a repeat customer, but he is very reserved. That is just his personality. If you get him talking, he is very personable. But he is generally a quiet person. I can tell you that when my daughter was a little girl, she has made her own purchases at the store. She was always treated like a princess!

I moved to Hawaii a year ago, so I haven't been able to visit HB Coin Exchange in a while. But I do know that everytime I visit Orange County, I will be making a special effort to shop at HB Coin Exchange.

Comparable prices to eBay.. I used to buy my coins on eBay, but after having a coin lost in the mail and spending a month looking for a place to buy coins I decided to look locally. I didn't have to look long as I found a place that sold bullion at eBay prices. I don't know if these other reviewers know what gold goes for but David Skier believes that gold has at sometime been at $1327 an ounce. The highest gold was around August 2009 was $950 an ounce. If you brought in scrap gold, it would be mixed with other metals and that is probably why you were offered $500. The owner is fair and the most knowledgeable person on coins I have met.

If you want to sell scrap... go to the pawn shop... I hear they give great deals!!

Too snooty for words.. Snooty attitude. High prices. There's a better, and cheaper, dealer just down the street. Unless you like abuse and high prices, avoid this store.
