Thought I'd Update the Last Review . . .. . . . because it's spot on. We recently moved to Dana Point and from the outside Carlos' looked like it had possibilities to become a hometown favorite. The wait staff was friendly. The service was timely, and the place certainly didn't lack for patrons. I guess they weren't very discerning about their Mexican cuisine, however. Just very bland and ordinary -- actually a little worse than that. I ordered a carnitas plate and the pork was heavily interspersed with chunks of fat. I had to perform surgery to find the edible portions. My wife had tacos which were greasy and gristly. O.K., maybe that is "authentic" in some locations, but most good Mexican restaurants don't shoot for the lowest quality meat to put in front of their patrons. Carlos didn't make up for it by superior seasoning either.

Sometimes a Mexican restaurant with average or lower food quality can make up for it by serving killer salsa. Carlos' didn't. We won't be back.

Below Average. I thought I may have found a good Mexican restaurant around here as I walked in. Nope! Blaw and minimal

in flavor and servings. It is edible and doable but certainly nothing to crave!

Yummy. Great place to check out for " the morning after". Great hang over food! Huevos Rancheros are at the top of my list and decent bloody marys. Check it out.
