In 1982, businessman Doug Cavanaugh opened the first Ruby's in Southern California's Newport Beach, naming it after his mother. Today, this nationwide chain--adorned with red vinyl booths, Formica tables, soda fountains and retro posters--features the same timeless food and hospitality that keep diners coming back. Favorites are the classic burgers topped with secret RubySauce, fries and sweet shakes. Other staples include pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, chili, salads and a variety of fountain treats.

My favorite burger. Ruby burger with cheese and grilled onions, french fries with ranch dressing and an oreo milkshake: my favorite meal of all time. I dont even think its possible to say a bad thing about Ruby's. Shakes are the best there is, fries are amazing (and bottomless) and the burger is my favorite anywhere in the U.S.

Multiple locations. The ones at the ends of the piers are a good time, but everything is served on paper and the shakes are much smaller. This is a good after the beach lunch/dinner location.
