Sushi Sho, what a find
by tran413 at Citysearch
Went here based on previous good reviews and I was pleasantly surprised. We came at the end of their lunch service but the hostess was very nice and welcoming. There were about 3 parties in the place, and it only has about 10 tables as well as a sushi bar. A cosy place. Was a bit hard to find and didn't look like much from the outside, just some big block letters in a boring commercial plaza, but the inside is nicely decorated, modern, and comfortable. But lets talk about the sushi. The fish was very fresh and the yellowtail is on the fatty side, which makes it great in my opinion. The flesh was almost buttery. The octopus isn't chewy, a big plus. Portions are large and prices are reasonable (about $8-12 per roll). The "Dream Roll" was amazing, it came with a lemony sauce which really complimented the albacore on the roll. The Sushi Sho special hand roll (with tuna, avocado, crab and crunchy rice flakes inside) was delicious. And the customer service was superb (our glasses were never empty for long) and everytime the hostess gave us a new plate or took the old one away she politely says "thank you". I also liked that we were served one dish at a time so we had time to enjoy it and didnt feel rushed even though it was past the time they were open for lunch. I know this feels like I'm gushing but I dont encounter really good places really often and they seem to deserve more customers than they have.
- Pros: Good Sushi, Good service, Nice People
- Cons: Weird location
I enjoyed my experience

I am from out of state and just happened to find this place using CitySearch. This is a small place, relatively simple, but nice. It is located in a small stripmall. The sushi chefs were very nice and attentive. Many of the customers are regulars and they were very friendly to me. Excellent quality of fish used in their sushi and sashimi. The sushi chef recommended ahi on this particular evening and it was "to die for." If I am back in the area I will certainly go back. I highly recommend this restaurant.
- Pros: excellent food and staff
- Cons: have to look carefully to find this place
how do you explain the empty seats?
by eat_and_sleep at Citysearch
all these great reviews, but the seats are usually empty, what's up with that? for your first visit, get the combination with shrimp tempura and beef steak terikayi and ADD sashimi (or sushi) for $4/$3 bucks more (the menu itself is somewhat misleading and unclear on this, so ask the waitress to be sure). the price comes out to about $16 for dinner and $13 for lunch -- a great bargain. since the coming of the new sushi chef, their sushi is second to none. (and just to think they had the best tempura in town already). the beef teriyaki uses good quality steak so you will surely not be disappointed. the soup is somewhat standard but the salad is great with their own hand made dressing. it used to require extreme patience, but now service has improved with more staff.
- Pros: excellent food and exellent value
- Cons: menu does not have manu grilled items

Some of the freshest sushi around

This little hole in the wall sushi bar in Costa Mesa is AMAZING!!! I try to get there at least once a week. Their fish is to die for. They don't skimp on the portions of sushi at all. They are reasonably priced, and they carry certain fish that other places don't have. Try the white tuna! And their toro is like butter. I have been to countless sushi places, and this is the place I keep coming back to. It's worth the drive, and the staff is so very friendly. I love Sushi Sho!
- Pros: Reasonably priced and amazing sushi
- Cons: none.
