Shoddy work, bad customer service
by bmickp
I took an antique wind watch to Jostmar for regular cleaning and service because they came recommended. However, the original cleaning took a week longer than promised. A broken part was missed during that cleaning (I had told them of the symptoms) and I had to bring the watch back again. It took two weeks, to fix the break. Now, I am going to have to call them again and take the watch back for a 3rd time because watch is gaining about 10 seconds a day!
Perhaps, if you need a new battery or adjusting a watch bracelet Jostmar might be able to handle it, but if you need competent watch maintenance, I recommend going someplace else.
- Pros: ummm...nothing
- Cons: a lot
Poor service, high cost

I understand Jostmar has been in business for a little while now, and the fact that they're located in the upscale South Coast Plaza Mall charging a very high amount for their services would lead one to believe that their service is at least decent. However, my experience with them was anything but that.
I brought in a modest $100 watch and only wanted a simple cleaning. I'm not the picky type to expect immaculate service from people...I was even able get over the $25 charge for "cleaning" my watch (which consists of having my watch put in an ultra-sonic cleaning bath...a process that takes 10 minutes tops including the watch dismantling and reassembly). I was told that my watch would be ready the following day and that they would call me.
A week goes by with no call, so I stopped by to inquire and they said the watch was done a while ago...they just forgot to call me. Strike 1.
I looked at the watch when it was returned to find what looked to be like scratches on the crystal. I was told that they "don't know how it got there" insinuating that it was most likely my fault somehow and asking if previous work has been done on it. Strike 2.
After politely asking them to do what they could do for me, with some hesitation they took another look at the watch and decided to try another ultra-sonic bath. 5 minutes later it comes out clean. "Oh, guess that worked getting whatever that was out" was their explanation.
This place strikes out harder than someone who went up to bat drunk. It was my first experience with them and most definitely the last. I would not recommend them and the only reason why I give them 2 stars is because the owner, to his credit, seems to be very knowledgeable and experienced in watch repair. I guess I just wasn't privy to that experience since my watch didn't cost as much as a car.
Overall I do not recommend this place.
