Editorial Review for Mayur Cuisine Of India – by Melanie Abrams
The Scene
A favorite with young families, this laid-back eatery has much to occupy little eyes, with colorful lanterns, turquoise curtains and a massive wooden mural intricately carved with Indian gods. Though the vibe is relaxed, the crisp white tablecloths and formal service make it a suitable destination for a Friday night date.
The Food
The appetizer platter, although heavy on fried foods like pakoras and bhajis, is a good introduction to the north Indian menu. The excellent spicy vegetable samosas make up for the lackluster vegetable dishes, like saag saneer. For entrees, stick to the meat dishes, particularly the tender lamb tikka, which is heaped on your plate from a sizzling iron skillet, and the rich lamb curry. The pizza-sized garlic naan is a must, as are the homemade desserts. Adventurous palates should try pistachio kulfi, a faintly chewy Indian ice cream topped with an edible silver leaf.

I've dined at Mayur many times and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always prompt and friendly. The waiters really know the menu well and can offer excellent assistance to those not completely familiar with Indian cuisine. The food itself is among the best Indian food I've ever had. The variety of menu options and the quality of the food place Mayur in the top tier of Indian restaurants.

We use to eat at Mayur many years ago and then left the area. We moved back and tried Mayur again and had the same delicious meal we had several years earlier-the only difference was that the restaurant had been remoldeled. It has become our local favorite for the past two years and the food is consistently fabulous. We lived in NYC for many years and we have never found an Indian Restaurant as good as this. We have also traveled serveral times to India and we have found the flavors very authentic and delicious at Mayur. The servers are friendly and the restaurant is cozy and very clean. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala, Shrimp tandoori and eggplant vegetable sidedish- the best in the world!
