Editorial Review for Opera – by Tara de Lis

In Short
Old school impresario David Judaken--who tempted clubgoers with the Garden of Eden, and much later Mood--has created a sensational new spot on Shrader. Not even remotely recognizable from its barn-like days as Vynyl or club 1650, the redesigned spot has gone very upscale. Lines build in advance of opening and stay firmly entrenched there throughout the night. Those who make it past the rope step through a fabulous Fogscreen, and into myriad of archways and candlelight. DJs spinning the latest thumping dance tracks.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This club is a great venue with a awesome crowd. I enjoy Monday and Friday nights because of the type of people that this venue brings and the amazing girl to guy ratio. Friday night? Come see what all the fuss is about. I promote Monday and Friday nights at opera as well as many other Hollywood clubs, email me for guest list with "Guest List" in the subject line and your phone number for contact in the body. My email is robotlove69@gmail com

Pros: unique ambiance, attractive crowd, cool sunken dance floor

Cons: parking (the club does open it's doors at 9:30 so you can snag some parking on hollywood blvd before it fills up)

I see many complaints; it almost turns me off to Hollywood. I've seen drama & it usually results from clashes of egos-both men & women. Try to be the sh!t, pretend you're entitled, or act better than the rest of the crowd, then club staff will be quick to shut you down. You can't win a petty battle of machismo outside of the club so relax & play the game. Be humble, realize you're out for a good time, & you'll have fun. I consider myself a good-looking guy. Maybe, maybe not, who knows. My guy friends are average. Been to Opera thrice and got in twice. Here's how it went down, emphasizing the last time: 1) Jun 08: Showed up at 12:30 on a Thur with my guy friend. Zero wait, no cover, awesome inside. I know it was late on a weekday though. 2) Jul 08: Showed up at midnight alone on a Thur. Didn't bother doormen or bouncers and left 5 mins later when a group of guys heard the bouncer say "No more dudes." Went next door to Crimson. 3) Aug 08: Played the game with my four guy friends from out of town who were 50/50 hip/not dressed hip. We were in line for 30 mins, but it was all good because it was moving. Of course the line was mostly guys and normal/unnatractive girls, & of course groups of hotties skipped the line with no wait at all. Like I said, those are the rules. As long as the line is moving & I'll eventually pay cover and get in, I'm fine with that. I KNOW THAT GOING IN AND DON'T EXPECT TO BE TREATED SPECIAL. The bouncer who looks like Dean Cain wasn't letting in ugly girls, and politely declined when I asked if I could just pay him instead of waiting. Five minutes later out of nowhere a promoter-real nice white guy-asked me how many in my group. I was still only halfway to the front of the line, but said "five guys, whatever you can do." He said "still gotta do my job." Damn. But wait! He opened the ropes and told us to say we were with the two hotties that Dean Cain just let in. We paid him the normal cover and went in,FIVE guys, shocked as hell - in a good way

Pros: Polite bouncers & doormen, diverse crowd, large venue on weekends, consistently strong drinks,

Cons: Though there are TWO dancefloors, they're small. Club is split into two venues on weekdays.
