Real Greek Food

by busyguy at Citysearch

Being raised near Chicago ( Greek Town) I longed for real Greek food. When Daphne's came along, I admit it did help ease the craving for a Gyro or anything else with feta cheese. But something seemed missing and I was not sure what it was. Then I happened to go into Pita Fresh and was brought back to the Greek food I remember. The owner, who by the way is from Greece, walked me though the menu. Souvlaki plates with perfectly spiced skewers of pork, lamb or chicken, real baklava, or how about the Tzatziki dip made with real Greek yogurt and not sour cream. It is hard to back off on the Tzatziki and hot pita bread, but you must or you will not be able to eat your main course.

I make it a habit to pick up dinner once a week to bring the family. They love it.

Best Authentic Greek Gyro in America

by MaxHoskins at Citysearch

For the first time since my visits to Greece I found a true Greek Gyro. It was made with fresh pork and spices, not a lamb loaf that is made in a factory and frozen until used. I have since tried almost everything on the menu and have found them all to be fresh and delicious. I have become a regular.

  • Pros: Great Food Good prices
  • Cons: No wine with dinner

Best Greek deal in town

by vsirvanci at Citysearch

Went to this place for dinner. They have opened recently and are still putting the final touches on the place, but man the food was already perfect. For the price you're paying, you are getting a great deal on pretty much everything they have on the menu. The tzatziki (yogurt mixed with cucumbers) was top notch so was the cheese filled falafel sticks (it just sounds yummy!). I had keftedes, the little meatballs which were seasoned and cooked to perfection with some seasoned french fries.

To top it all, I had baklava which was home made for sure and a Frappe which is a Greek coffee drink. And, no it is not a Frappucino. All in all, the bill was nowhere near what you would pay at a nice Mediterranean restaurant while the food was up to par with one. The food was definitely much better than Daphne's so if you're in the area stop by and give it a try.

And on the way out, don't forget to get a Frappe to go especially if it's summer. It will help you cope with the heat on the way back to wherever you're going.

  • Pros: Great deal for the quality you're getting
  • Cons: Nothing
