We just got our puppy, Lady, who is a Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle mix from PSB on Saturday. I came across the website on a google search, fell in love with her picture, and had to see her.
When we got to the shop, it as pretty busy. There was a family with kids and people waiting for grooming. I couldn't tell who worked there...but at the same time I didn't mind because I was too busy admiring the store. The puppies were all bouncy and happy. The store was clean and organized. It felt like a warm and happy environment.
Well, it turned out that the guy at the counter (he wasn't behind it) was the owner Leslie who was grooming a puppy for a waiting couple. He asked me how he could help me once he was done and I told him who I was there to see. I was a little heartbroken at that time because I didn't see her out front with the other pups and I thought she may have been gone...but she wasn't! He informed me she was in the back and would bring her out.
When he brought her to me, we bonded immediately. She was happy, healthy, and loving. Leslie left me and my husband to have time with her alone and didn't pressure us or linger around uncomfortably. Every once in a while we would see him peek around the corner just to make sure we didn't leave with her.
As we filled out paperwork to buy her, she ran around the store playing with everyone (its a very busy place). Leslie took the time to explain how to care for her, gave us the necessities, and encouraged us to call him for any questions. He brushed her, trimmed her hair, gave her a fresh girly spritz and handed her to me. I did pay attention to how he treated her and the other pups...and he is super gentle with them. It also shows in the pups for sale...if they were treated horribly...it would show in their behavior...but all of them are very loving and kind...especially Lady :)
I, unfortunately, am not one of the lucky ones who brought home a potty trained puppy. She had only been there for 3 days by the time we swooped her up. We don't have any problems walking her on a leash though...she follows us around anyway :) Today was our first piddle pad accomplishment...so its a work in progress. Thats the only thing I'm bummed about.
Oh! Lady also has a microchip implanted in case she were to ever get lost...you get paperwork for that too.
I love her to pieces. The place is great. I also think it says a lot to see so many repeat customers. He knew his clients and their pet's by name when they walked in...and everyone seemed really happy to be there (other than the wait...but its completely understandable).
For those that complain...and for future customers...all I can say is read your contract carefully. You only have 3 days to guarantee your part of the agreement by taking your pup in for a health exam. The contract seems pretty clear to me what Leslie will and wont do...what he'll be responsible for and what he won't. He stresses very strongly that YOU be responsible on your part and he'll do the same. Its a teamwork thing...in my opinion. Lady goes in for her health exam tomorrow per the contact agreement :) Better safe than sorry!
