What Our Expert Scouts Say

Javier's Cantina & Grill

A beautiful restaurant decor, this is always packed at Happy Hour. Order their house margarita, the fish tacos, or their La Tableta to share (I go with Steak). They do have some of the best house salsa!

Rude & Horribal Hosts/Manager (Omar). Be prepared to be treated like nothing when you decide to go to this restaurant. Our party of 6 made a reservation at 7:30 on Saturday night. We arrived early at 7:00 and we promptly informed the host that we have arrived. We ended up not being seated until 7:45 and the manager, Omar, told us "we are a very busy restaurant and all of our reservations run late." This tells me 1) your restaurant is poorly managed. There are many more high-end and busier restaurants out there that do not have any problem keeping the reservations on time. 2) your management team doesn't care and does not honor the guests who are courteous enough to make reservations. While we waited for 45 minutes for our table to be ready we were checking with the hosts on our table's status and the hostess told us "I will let you know when it's ready". This is no way to treat customers. This was a horrible dinner experience and our steak were way over cooked. Nothing was done by the management to correct the situation.

And ladies please bring your own toilet paper because the restaurant cannot keep the ladies' room stocked with the restroom essentials.

Javier's SUKKS!!!! bad service.. overpriced food. this place succks!!!! service was bad. rude host. i wanted to try something new other than yardhouse. but yeah right. there are other mexican restaurants out there who treat their guest with the utmost guest satisfaction. that's no way to run a restaurant. especially if its at the irvine spectrum. and WAY too overpriced... DONT GO HERE..

Busy, even on a Tuesday evening. Javier's was packed with people, even on a Tuesday evening. Luckily, we reserved a room for 12 people and were seated promptly. I thought it was going to be an intimate room, but it was really loud and I wasn't able to carry a normal conversation. This place is ideal for a hip outing, but not if you want some deep conversation. The food is good, but I'm not sure if I want to pay $27 for a plate of camarones. I think you're paying more for the atmosphere.

CHEAPSKATE-CHEAPSKATE-CHEAPSKATE. Walking in to Javiers gives you a good feeling....very upscale. Unfortunately, the greeter was not very friendly eventhough I had reservations. The food is excellent (My girlfriend is Mexican)....but that is where the fun stopped. First of all, we orderered 4 entrees but was only given 4 tortillas. To my surprise, we were charged for ordering 2 "EXTRA"orders of tortillas at the end of the meal. When my mother-in-law asked for a container for her salsa for her left overs, the waiter explaind that they normally dont do that because of people ordering extra salsa. Wow for a $120 bill I didn't expect to be shaken down for .75 of tortillas and .50 of salsa. To the owners of Javiers...if you cant afford the rent at the Irvine Spectrum ............M-O-V-E.

Great Mexican Food with a poor experience. Good Food with a Bad Experience

Our dinner was very tasty and I really enjoyed the food. All the tastes and sauces were very authentic and I like the atmosphere. What ruined it for me was at the end of the meal I found out that we were being "Charged for extra Tortillas" and we also got an explanation that they were doing us a favor by letting me pack some salsa with my doggy bag. I did not know that tortillas and salsa make such an impact on a restaurant. That's like charging extra for dinner rolls at other restaurants. I also brought my two toddlers and we got popped for mandatory 18% tip on 4 adults and 2 kids. That rent at Irvine Spectrum must be hurting them. I'm glad I did not have a second cup of water. That's too bad, the food was good too.

Best mexican food in O.C.. If you think Del taco, has some good mexican well think again people. Althought Del is good, nothing comes even close to Javier's Cantina and Grill. I just recently went to dinner with my boyfriend at one in the Irvine Spectrum. Food was great, the drinks were even better and the service was unbeatable. Very friendly staff. We made reservations and we were seated in less then 10 min. Great place for a nice birthday dinner or a romantic dinner for two. I am sure Javier's will please just about anyone.
