The best place to sell your gold
by naya at Citysearch
I just sold my Krugarrand gold coins to Irvine Gold Mine. I highly recommend here!
I called 3 different places for a quote, and Irvine Gold Mine gave me the best quote. Once I got to the mall, I couldn't find it (the whole place is under construction as of today). I saw another jeweler which had a big 'sell your gold' sign. I figured it doesn't hurt to check out. They were trying to take my gold coins inside to get the quote, so I had to ask them to keep them in my sight. It's not some kind of gold chain that needs appraisal. Their quote was very low, so I asked how much fees they were charging. They answered 12%, but from the highest price I saw online that morning, their quote was closer to 18%. Even considering the fluctuating value, it's still too high.
I finally found the right place, and went in. They actually gave me $10 more than the over the phone quote, because the price went up while I was getting to Irvine Gold Mine! They charged about 3% of the value. According to what I researched online, 3% is the right amount.
If you have any gold to sell, make sure to check out today's price, that way you will be assured to know Irvine Gold Mine is honest in dealing with you. This is the best place, and I will do business again.
don't sell your gold anywhere else!

The reason I initially decided to go to the gold mine was because they were SO NICE over the phone. most coin stores I called were pretty rude and seemed like they thought they were doing me a favor to give me the price of a kruggerand over the phone. um, hello, i want to give YOU business!
anyways, i'm bad with directions so i ended up in the right shopping center but in the wrong store. i went into mactavish thinking that i was at the gold mine. the gold mine had quoted me over the phone almost $1200 for each of my 1 oz kruggerands.... and I walk into mactavish and they offered me $200!!! i was like ummm, are you kidding? you must be confused. these are 1 oz coins and (thinking i was in the right place) i told them they had quoted me higher on the phone. they told me i was lying, the coins weren't worth that much. so i asked if i was at the gold mine and they proceeded to tell me that they would never pay me that high and totally bagged on the gold mine....
so, i was livid. i found my way to the gold mine, walk in the door, tell the girl helping me what i have to sell, and she quotes me within $2 what i had been quoted over the phone and then she apologized because gold had come down $2 since we talked on the phone earlier! long story short, they paid me cash a very fair price and made me feel very comfortable the entire time i was there. if i didn't have a fistful of cash, i would have gone to mactavish to yell at them but alas, not worth the risk.
long story short, sell your gold at the gold mine!! they will not take advantage of you if you look like a girl who doesn't know anything about gold like i do! i'm going back soon with all of my old charm bracelet, hoop earrings, etc since i don't wear that stuff anymore!
Great place to do business

I've been doing business with the gold mine since the early 80's. Over the years, I've dealt with them in a number of different capacities. My husband is a coin collector and works with John at the gold mine buying and selling rare coins. With the economy right now, John has also helped Rick invest in gold and silver bullion. He's extremely knowledgeable and has always been very fair and honest with us. I also used the gold mine to redesign my wedding ring (and "upgrade" the center diamond) a few years back. I still get compliments on it and they clean it for me for free anytime I stop by. It's so convenient... I drop my ring off, run to Ralphs and by the time I get back it looks brand new. It's nice to work with a store that's been around for so long and cares about maintaining its good reputation. I give the Irvine Gold Mine my wholehearted recommendation!
- Pros: fair prices, good customer service
- Cons: none

Nasty Nasty Place!

This place is listed twice here. So I have to review them twice...
I can't imagine why this place is in business with the terrible people that run it and own it. They clearly hire disabled people to keep their costs down. They damaged my property in mere minutes (all they needed to do was change a watch battery!), didn't own up to it, and the disgusting trash of an owner began accusing me for being a troublemaker after they damaged my property! He began YELLING AT ME, and then accused me of coming into his DIVE of a business to "start trouble". Like I have time for that during my lunch break, good grief. Warning to customers, take your fine jewelry elsewhere if you want to see it come back in one piece. Go by appearances, it looks like a hole because it is one. They can't even do an $8 service properly don't trust them with anything.
