Editorial Review for Sopra – by Michael Martin
In Short
Climbing a '50s-style concrete staircase, hungry locals make their way through a series of glass doors and into this second-floor eatery. After various incarnations as Cyrano and La Di Da, the latest venue offers an Italian-inspired kitchen and neighborhood bar serving slow-cooked meats and pastas. The dining room features floor-to-ceiling glass with suspended spotlights. A terrace lines the front, with treetop views of the neighborhood and the Hollywood Hills.

Insider Tips
ParkingWith meters in ample supply along Beverly, try for an open spot nearer to Doheny and skip the valet altogether.
Look GoodGetting there can be a bit confusing when the valet isn't present; the restaurant is located at the top of the stairs next to an antique dealer.
Where to SitSmokers aren't the only one on the terrace, which offers a lively drinking environment speckled with romantic two-tops taking in dinner by the sunset.

I made reservation to this restaurant a month in advance for my friend's surprise birthday dinner. I called them 5 days before the reservation and confirm that it was in good standing order. Twelve of my guests showed up at the restaurant that night and it was closed down. There were no signs stating reasons why the restaurant was closed. I tried calling them several times, the calls just led me to a voicemail. No one from the restaurant called me and advise me about the situation, not even the restuarant owner. That night was a disaster for me and my friends. It was one of the worst night of my life. This restaurant deserve to be closed down due to it's poor services. I give them a BIG fat Zero.
Cons: Inconsiderate

We had a company dinner party for about 80 people last Saturday and the entire restaurant was reserved for us. I also went there for dinner with 2 friends about 2 weeks ago, just to check it out. It was a wonderful experience both times! The ambiance is perfect (not too casual, not too stuffy - just right) in a cozy and romantic way with a beautiful view, soft lighting and tiny little silvery disco-balls hanging from the ceiling. The food was really tasty (and very reasonably priced!) when I went there on my own. I realize that it's not easy to cook for large groups and I didn't have unrealistic hopes for the company party dinner. But the group dinner was just as good as the dinner on my own!!! (I have only tried the salmon, chicken and hanger steak - and can honestly recommend all of these. Nothing boring or basic about them in that place!) Service was very pleasant both times as well. I'm not sure how they handled our large (and at times rowdy and un-ruly!) group - but everything went very smoothly. The bartenders and wait staff had great attitude and were as professional as it gets. The feed-back I received from my co-workers was just as positive. I will certainly go back for more!
Pros: Food, ambiance, cost, service
Cons: bathroom is tiny
