Tortellini's! You gotta read this!. 6/04

My wife & I were going to a concert and wanted something to eat that wasn't fast food. We saw this Italian restaurant. We looked at the menu outside & I saw gnocchi with a tomato cream sauce so I said "let?s give it a try." The hostess, who had obviously been watching us check out the menu, said: "so we meet with your approval?" "Sure" we said.

The waiter brought us water and bread. It was one small roll each. I could see dry pieces of crust already fallen off onto the plate.

Now I know what a prisoner feels like.

It would have been bad on a Monday, but a Saturday night? With last week?s bread? We started to laugh uncontrollably. Meanwhile, nearby an older couple, were apparently enjoying their 5:30pm dinner, and I felt a deep sympathy and then dread. "Will my life get this drab & sheltered that this is a special night out?"

Ok, it was obvious we were settling, but we picked something to order. I realized nothing looked very interesting other than the "tomato cream" gnocchi. So I ordered it as we both contained our laughter over the bread.

My wife & I tried our food (her food was so forgettable we don't remember what it was) As for my dish, the "tomato cream" sauce had a distinct familiar flavor........ only one thing came to mind "CHEF BOYARDEE WANTS HIS RECIPE BACK!!!"

We had to contain cracking up to ask for our bill, and even more laughter as we declined a to-go box.

As we walked out the hostess asked us how everything was. By that time we were laughing so hard we couldn't even answer. We stumbled out the door followed by 45 minutes of non-stop hysteria, and near DUI like driving.

Are you kiddin'' me! This place is still open! They must have changed the recipes? Come on please tell me you changed the recipes!

As God is my witness, Chef Phillip, please tell me you were not working there in June 2004!!!

p.s. Seeing the charge on my debit card the next month caused another 30+ minutes of uncontrollable laughter!
