Editorial Review for Providence – by Tara de Lis

The Scene
The familiar Patina layout remains intact, a series of separate, elegant dining areas, including a subdued lounge, its adjacent nook, a private chef's table, along with the main room and the covered patio annex. Simply decorated in beige-brown hues and absent artwork, save for scattered clusters of porcelain and ceramic seashells, confident servers float about with informed confidence and easygoing charm.

The Food
Cimarusti transformed Water Grill from cruise ship fare to Le Bernadin rival; here, he again reimagines sophisticated seafood. Starters are divided between hot and cold/raw varieties: Kanpachi is sashimi-delicate and refreshing; sweet Japanese ayu offers a luxuriously crispy skin texture. Entrees and accompaniments are equally enticing; be it the tender snapper served with a sensory wonderland of roma tomato compote and artichoke puree; or the perfectly cooked scallops sided with a savory cauliflower-bacon ravioli. The popular chocolate chibouste dessert is topped with tarragon ice cream and laden with sea salt to offset the sweetness.

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

The main room is the epicenter of the action, but can get loud on busy nights--request seating in the patio room for a more intimate experience. Don't get relegated to the small, remote alcove behind the bar.

Parking

Valet parking is available on the Cole side of the restaurant, but street spots can usually be found in the neighborhood.

What to Drink

The by-the-glass wine selection is generous. Try the $40 Domaine Vrignaud Chablis 2002, great for multi-fish pairings. Corkage is $15.

I finally made the drive, after I have been recommend to come here for many months, and I was not disappointed. It was two of us, we both had the nine course tasting meal and one of us paired it with wine. it took us about three hours to be done with dinner . Overall without going into too many details, every course was really good except the second appetizer we got served which wasn't bad, but just nothing exceptional. Dishes presentation was a big part of the experience and every fish course was impeccable. the service was very professional and attentive. the atmosphere overall is a little stuffy. I would definitely recommend trying it, but because of the high prices and very formal atmosphere, it is not a place where I would come very often
