I had read their menu before we visiting and there was some pretty good descriptions of their food. You will not be dissapointed. The service was great. The waitress was very very helpful in helping us with the menu. The Japon Pizza roll is a must! We had ordered from the TAPAS plates, cold and hot. The filet of beef will melt in your mouth, The seabass was very good. They use a special technique to grill their food and you can really taste the smoking flavor in the food. The overall atmosphere was very relaxing. They have music playing in the background, but it is not overbearing so you can have a conversation while enjoying the meal. Their bar lounge area is small but makes for a perfect ambiance to hang out and enjoy a drink before dinner. You would never now this place exists unless you are referred there or read this. It is behind the other stores and restaurants. You will be back once you visit the first time!
Best Fusion (and service) for the money!. Zipangu was my choice for my wifes' surprise 40th birthday celebration. I must say that the staff (Manager Iguchi and Assistant Hiroko) were simply awsome! I had never been to Zipangu but was referred by my sister in law along with several other area restaraunts. From the time my guests arrived to lye in wait for my wife and I until the time we were walking out the door, this place was pheonominal! We had our food almost immediately, clean plates, new napkins, drinks & refills before we could even look up. The food was wonderful and so many unusual choices. Several of our friends have never been to a fusion style resararunt, and they were eager to try things they thought they would never try (beatutiful presentation on all of the dishes). I reccommend the Eggplant/Duck Liver dish (i forgot the menu name). If you like the Asion/Fusion experience, you have got to try Zipangu. Thank you again to Iguchi, Hiroko and the entire staff for making my Wifes' birthday such a memorable experience!
Good sushi place w/ hip vibe. I've been to Zipangu a few times and have always had a good experience. It has a cool vibe...dark accents, modern feel, and very clean. It's kind of small restaurant, but the space is well utilized. When you walk in, a full bar and cozy extended bar area is sectioned off to your right. The main seating area is straight ahead. And a sushi bar is in the left corner. The non-sushi dining menu lists small dishes, meat/seafood dishes, soups, salads, and starters...and the sushi menu lists Zipangu special rolls, traditional rolls, "anti-rice" rolls, and others. Most of the special rolls are a little pricier...around $14-15. That's kind of consistent with special rolls in a lot of other sushi restaurants, so I don't know why some of these folks are complaining. I had the OC Volcano Roll which was warm, tasty, and filling. My friend enjoyed one of the "anti-rice" rolls which was actually wrapped in thin cucumber. We also ordered two servings of tuna tataki (which wasn't on the menu, but we asked for it anyway)...the tuna was super fresh and melt-in-your-mouth tender. I wish they'd just put it on the menu. The service was really good...there seemed to be enough waitresses to cover the floor. Also, on weekends, a dj starts spinning around 10pm...very cool & hip music (the night I was there). Some additional tips: if you've never been here before, look for the neon green Habana sign. Parking may be limited on busy weekends. There's a huge Pep Boys parking lot next door, but I hear they'll sometimes tow your car for parking there. You can try parking across Bristol in The Camp. I like this place a lot...definitely recommended!!!
Cool Vibe, Shabby Sushi. I'm really into sushi and this place just didn't impress. They serve the sushi like tapas and charge you twice as much. Plus they barely put any alcohol in the drinks ... after a few overpriced and watered down drinks we walked up to bar and had the bartender add more booze. Lame.
Great Unique Sushi and Cool Bar Area. I have been to Zipangu twice and both times were great! The food is a bit pricey, but it was all delicious and served with unique presentations. The drink list is fun and different (drinks for each Zodiac sign) and the bar area has a cool futuristic vibe (it is small though). I would recommend going for drinks and appetizers, as dinner can really add up!
Great service and food for a decent price. We are from the L.A. area and on an overnight in Orange County. The hotel staff recommended this restaurant after several misses at shoddy sushi restaurants up and down Bristol Street. This was definitely worth the wait and effort to find it. Our waitress was the best service I've encountered at any sushi restaurant and they had decent prices. The decor is beautiful and has a great all around vibe. The sushi is extremely fresh and tasty. We wish they had a location in L.A.
Average at best.. This spot is not consistent and is very overpriced. They try to be like their neighbors, but can't capture a cool vibe. The food is good and the staff does try, but it misses the mark across the board. For a fun night, drop by the neighboring Habana Restaurant.
