great school!
by wcrammer at Citysearch
the school is great! teachers and staff have been committed to the school for a long time -- show deep dedication.
the environment is helpful and understanding -- they really try to help their students "get" it.
positive attitude and really trying to have a "professional" atmosphere.
i've read a few of the posts below -- every group of people has drama - this school, like every other place, is no different. it's what you make of your experience and it's how much you engage in the drama. if you're willing to be courteous and go the extra mile with manners and thoughtfulness, then i can't imagine having any problems with any of the silly little girl drama.

I felt compelled to write the post below after I read last INCREDIBLY inappropriate post earlier in this forum. I could not, for the life of me, understand what would compel someone to reduce themselves to slander in such an inappropriate way. Attacking a person's disability is a fairly low blow and only indicative of the poster's lack of valid reasoning behind the post as well as an immaturity that I find personally appalling. I felt that Career Academy of Beauty deserves a bit of support that is not from "a bribed student", rather an incredibly satisfied client. I know from personal experience that Career Academy of Beauty welcomes constructive criticism. The owner as well as all of the staff and ultimately, the students learn to, welcome both positive and negative feedback. It is a large part of the solid base needed to provide a truly high quality service to their clients. I know from years of personal experience, CAoB strives for excellence while keeping a close eye toward positive reinforcement with the hundreds of students whom have graduated and gone on to become established professionals. Their staff is continually educated in many areas and this results in a unique (to this field) very friendly, assertive and innovative education for all of their students.
Although on a personal level, your behavior disgusts me, I'd like to thank you CAgirl23 for providing the teacher you referred to with an experience to share with her students. Real world injustices such as what you've performed here, become an effective teaching tool for her. She will use this opportunity to show her students, first hand, how to overcome adversity in the eloquent way she always has... with her head held high and the deep knowledge that she has truly overcome extreme challenges both in her career as well as her life.
CAgirl23, to be quite honest, you could stand a bit of maturing. Although I would have expelled you for your underhanded and cynical public slander, please recognize the fact that Career Academy of Beauty has not given up on you so easily. Their dedication toward educating you is still very strong. It is my hope that the high level of integrity this school's staff and students bestow upon you will one day be mirrored by you.
- Pros: Great School and patient too!
- Cons: The occassional drama fill student...
CAoB is amazing!
by Mary Sheldon at Citysearch
If it's a well rounded, up to date and thorough education you seek, CAoB in Garden Grove, CA is the place to go! I am not a student, never have been. However, I have years of experience being a client and have the good fortune of having known several successful students who've transitioned into the field of Beauty Services. A few of the students that I've know have obtained excellence to the extent of becoming teachers themselves. CAoB utilizes a method that I call "Learn it, teach it, know it". Some have taken this to it's highest level and created a career out of sharing the extensive education they received at CAoB with others.
Areas of major focus are not simply on the mechanics of Beauty Services, this extends to educate their students on etiquette as well as a focus on resolving personal emotional issues which, quite frequently, lead to failure when entering this work force. The "Nuts and Bolts" course includes focus areas such as "Embracing Change", which challenges the students to step outside of their comfort zones to facilitate expansion of their expertise while remaining confident and sure of the high quality skills they are sure to acquire during their time attending CAoB. CAoB comprehensively prepares it's students to enter into this highly competitive field which requires an ever changing, forward thinking professionalism as well as continued education and great artistic talent. Career Academy of Beauty definitely fills this tall order!
If you are in need of quality services, especially last minute, you may obtain just about anything you need from them! From the impromptu date, to that important meeting with high end clients, I have elicited the service of CAoB to facilitate a look that is both striking as well as facilitating an impression of professionalism which is critical with business women! From the general trim to that last minute, and incredibly important moment that you want to last forever (in a good way!), the professional staff and well educated students at CAoB are what you need!
- Pros: well rounded educational services and a great atmosphere!
- Cons: The occassional "drama filled" student
Students Are Bribed To Write 5* Reviews!
by CAgirl23 at Citysearch
The reason this school has so many positive reviews is bc the students r bribed 2 write 5 star reviews by being given a free student service. But I would rather everyone know the truth...
1st of all when u are thinking about enrolling they treat u like royalty & promise all these amazing things. But everyone working in the office wasn't hired 4 their skills, but because they r friends w/ the owner. Once u enroll u aren't treated special anymore, in fact the office staff forget who u r every time they see u & u have 2 re-introduce yourself & ur whole deal everytime. Some just seem really out of it. They give answers like "I don't know, I'll find out later 4 u." & of course never do. I'm sure they get busy but if u don't feel like u r getting what u need from them, why r they there? Their job should be to help u with ur needs.
The whole thing with tuition is a scam...I don't know how it is if u r getting government help but when u r paying out of pocket they come up w/ tons of little things 2 charge u 4. It's 1 of those things where u need 2 read the fine print, only there is none, just what the staff is verbally telling u which is just a bunch of rambling...scary.
Moving on 2 the front desk staff...As a student u end up dealing w/ the front desk staff a lot & most of the time they r very rude/ bad attitudes. Talk about the office, the front desk REALLY doesn't care about our needs! I've also seen them try 2 plug the wrong types of services & products 2 clients & try 2 sell them things they don't need...they don't know what they are talking about! I've heard clients also complain about how rude they are. Basically they make me feel like even though I'm paying thousands of dollars 2 go 2 this school, I am there 2 serve them! They are making $ off the students right & left from the high priced tuition & kits 2 us working on clients all day long & setting prices that r 2 high for a school service & we never see a dime of it.
Where does all this money go? I guess paying the under educated employees, bc we have broken equptment, outdated & a washing machine from the 60's that looks like its about 2 break down! They could be using some of that money towards a janitor or some kind of cleaning service. The restroom really never looks clean.
Moving on....They r always looking 2 put in more programs at this school that they could make extra $ off of. 1 they just came up with is called Nuts & Bolts, a business class. Everyone that they coned into taking it thought it was a total waste! They aren't learning anything, the certificate is not recognized by employers & they have a dyslexic teacher teaching it which obviously makes it hard 2 learn when she can't read or write on a board. & They are not making this class optional in the future, they are making it manditory & raising the cost of tuition! The students wanted 2 drop this class & get at least some of their money back but they were told they weren't going 2 get any money back & weren't allowed to drop out. When the students decided 2 go 2 the office in a group & talk 2 someone the office staff refused to even come out & talk 2 them! Totally unfair & wrong.
My advice for choosing a school....no beauty school is perfect, every school might have their own issues that might not make it great but if you really want to do this for a career you have to choose 1 so... don't believe everything the employees are telling you but talk 2 current or former students & see what they think, Go w/ your gut & if all else fails, take cosmetology or esthetician classes at a J.C. where it's way cheaper if you don't qualify for financial aid, even if u have 2 b on a waiting list bc when it comes 2 thousands of dollars & an education, u don't want to feel like u are being cheated!
Great Service at Career Academy of Beaut

I like going to the Academy of Beauty in Garden Grove.
Why? Well the service is great. The staff and students
are friendly and courteus. Yesterday, I went for a root touch-up. The results were great! The color selected by the instructor was perfect and the job performed by the student was amazing.
In addition, the manager of the school is readily available for consultation regarding beauty products or services.
- Pros: Friendly service
- Cons: none
