Editorial Review for Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel Afternoon Tea – by Jennifer Schwartz
The Scene
Walk through the posh lobby and step into the library for afternoon tea. The handsome room is elegantly appointed with exquisite antiques, plush sofas and a glass-encased schooner model. You may think you're in a Victorian mansion, until you gaze through the expansive bay window. The multimillion-dollar view offers a glittering ocean panorama and, if you time it right, a spectacular sunset.
The Food
Select from a variety of brews, including a light jasmine blend or deep English Breakfast black tea. The Royal Tea (about $5 more) begins with a kir royale, followed by a three-tiered tray of delicate finger sandwiches, scones with lemon curd and bite-sized pastries. Traditional tastes are given the gourmet treatment; salmon slices are sprinkled with caviar and smoked ham is rolled around tender baby asparagus. To drive the California point home, the last course consists of four fresh strawberries atop a swirl of barely there cream.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasAnother ritzy dining choice in the sumptuous Ritz-Carlton is the Terrace--the caviar is divine.

I must tell you that the Ritz Carlton's tea was so far superior to the afternoon tea that we had at Harrods in London.
Pros: Quality tea & food, Excellent Service, Incredible Views
