Stay Away from the apple pie!.
I visited this place last Sat. August 8, 2011. There was a 20 mins wait but we decided to take the counter sitting for faster service. I was extremely hungry and did not want to wait. As I read the menu, I became very excited about the dessert selection of fresh bake apple pie with ice cream. But my appetite change to disgust. After seeing where the apple pie was stored. The pie me out of box, cut, and placed under the sink near the drainage pipes. The pie crust actually touched the pipes!!!! The worst part was that the server preparing the milkshakes, sundaes, etc was also preparing the apple pie dessert. She did not once wash her hands. She was warming up the pie in the microwave and checked the pie was warm enough by touching it with her fingers. I was disgusting. I tried to tell one of the girls that the pie was touching the pipes underneath the sink and she said no and simply moved the pie away from the pipe.
The pier has a great view, if you decide to eat at Ruby?s stay away from their apple pie!!!!!!!
1940s-style diner chain serves comfort food classics to patrons with a craving for nostalgia..
In Short
In 1982, businessman Doug Cavanaugh opened the first Ruby's in Southern California's Newport Beach, naming it after his mother. Today, this nationwide chain--adorned with red vinyl booths, Formica tables, soda fountains and retro posters--features the same timeless food and hospitality that keep diners coming back. Favorites are the classic burgers topped with secret RubySauce, fries and sweet shakes. Other staples include pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, chili, salads and a variety of fountain treats.
Good casual fare.. Ruby's is a Johnny Rocket's style diner with a larger menu. Situated at the end of Seal Beach Pier, it's a fun lunch place, but not so great for more formal occasions (first dates, etc.). There aren't any restrooms inside, leaving patrons to try their chances with Seal Beach's public pier restrooms. And as for eating light... dream on.
