Deceptive Sales Tactics!!! I just wanted to share my recent experience with the House of Imports in Buena Park, California. If you are considering a purchase at this dealer, new or pre-owned, I would caution that you pay close attention to the details.
I have purchased a vehicle from the House of Imports in the past, resulting in a very good experience. Unfortunately, this last experience proved to be the opposite.
The initial test drive and inspection of the vehicle was a good experience. They provided us with a vehicle history report and the clean Carfax. We didn't initially agree on the selling price, but the sales manager was very courteous and up front with us about pricing. He gave us the trade-in cost of the vehicle and the amount of money the dealer had to incur for repairs (tires, brakes, maintenance, etc). Since we didn't initially agree on the purchase price, the sales manager offered to call us back in the future when they adjust their selling price if the car does not sell. We agreed and left the dealer satisfied.
One week later, we receive a call from the House of Imports. They counter-offered a deal which we accepted. After carefully looking at the vehicle history report and the "supposed" repairs the dealer completed on the vehicle, we requested them to include servicing the supercharger clutch bearing. They could not honor that request as they said they have already incurred over $3500 in repairs and maintenance. One of those maintenance issues included the motor mounts, as well as a brand new battery. Before completing the sale, we also requested the dealer to resolve the warning lamps noted in the dash. It mentioned a bulb/lamp faiure. The dealer said they would take care of the issue.
After taking the vehicle home and allowing it to sit in the garage for 2 days, the car did not start. It required a jump start, not only once, but every time thereafter. Since the car was purchased out of warranty, we took it to a certified independent mechanic. He found out that the battery was never replaced and that the motor mounts were not new. This has been our trusted mechanic for over 20 years, so we knew he was not pulling a fast one on us. We kept those parts to prove that these items were never replaced. We brought it to the attention of the dealer, and they said that the vehicle history report is "For internal use only." However, they used this report as part of the sales tactics to assure us the vehicle was in great mechanical condition, and as a way of telling us that they had very little margin in turning a profit due to the costs of the maintenance items.
This misrepresentation was considered fraudulent, and we should have immediately reported this to the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Reports, Department of Motor Vehicles, etc. However, we gave the House of Imports the opportunity to resolve the issue by reimbursing us for the cost of the repair as well as replacing what we found out to be "aftermarket" high intensity discharge headlights which caused the warning light "failure". After waiting for the dealer to resolve the issue, they did not get back to us, so we contacted Mercedes Benz of North America and informed them of their fraudulent sales tactics. MBUSA mentioned that each dealer operates independently, but advised us they will make an attempt to resolve the issue. Needless to say, the House of Imports never offered a resolution to the issue.
I just wanted to share this experience for those of you considering a purchase at the House of Imports. I'm sure others have had very good experiences with this dealer as we have in the past, but unfortunately our last experience was very disappointing. Our family, my sister, and my brother intend to purchase other MB cars in the future as we have owned about 9 between the three of us families, but never again are we going to purchase from the House of Imports in Buena Park, California.
Good Guy – When I arrived to House of Imports I was given the privilege of working with Jack. He showed me what excellent service and caring for the customer is all about. He never once pushed me in a direction I didn’t feel comfortable and always was making sure I was happy. Any company would be so lucky to have this genuine person work for them and I am so happy he was able to help me with my purchase.
Suprise – So I got a Story for you. My girlfriend saved for almost 3 years for her dream car (SLK350). She didn’t want high payments so she had a goal to put at least half down. Four months ago her dream came true. The car was black on black, convertible, and had every bell and whistle. Three weeks ago my truck was in the shop and I need to run some errands. I dropped her off at work and picked her up in a rent-a-car. Someone had ran a stop sign and t-boned me. I knew she was glad I was ok but you could tell she was really upset at the situation. I felt so bad so I contacted Violet at House of Imports went in and told her the story. She notified me that they did have the same car but there was one in Texas that is Identical. We did some paper work and it was on its way here. The following week she helped me with a surprise. I had it delivered to the house with a GIANT red bow on the top and an engagement ring tied to the steering wheel. When she came out she was in SHOCK! I tossed her the keys and she ran to get in the car. I got right in front, down on 1 knee. All said and done she has her baby back and were getting married next fall. A great thx to Violet and House of Imports.
No Games – Can I just start off with saying what a relief it is to go to a dealership, tell them what you need, what type, warranty, color, and that you want it today, House Of Imports. I went to House of Imports to get the car of my dreams, a friend of mine told me that they were the ones to go see. So I did and I have to say it was a great experience. I now have a great car for a great payment each month, and I enjoy driving my vehicle. I will recommend House of Imports to any and everyone that wants to go, get a car, and be done. No run around No games just a great experience.
Getting a Boat – I'm no stranger to House of Imports. I have purchased here in the past, and recently. I drive a Z06 and my wife has a Benz. We are thinking of purchasing a boat for the summer but both vehicles are inadequite to tow. About three weeks ago I called Mike (my salesman) and told him I'm in the market for something that can tow like a pick-up or an SUV. He called me just a few days ago and told me to come down he had something for me to look at. When I got to the lot, he took me to the back and shows me this beautiful Range Rover Sport. I have never thought about getting a Range Rover but after my test drive, feeling the power, and experiencing it luxury I was sold. It was now time for Mike and I to go talk some numbers. Because this was going to be an extra vehicle I didn't want to spend so much. I'm not sure if its because I'm a returning customer or how he pulled it off but I left the lot paying way less than I anticipated. Thanks Mike my Range Rover will definately be able to tow our new boat.
New Big Car – Im a mother of two with one on the way. My vehicle previously was very small and barely fit my husband and our kids. We decided it was time to get a larger vehicle for our specific needs. My husbands father recommended House of Imports to us so we started our research to see what they had to offer. We very much liked what we saw and decided to go in and speak to a rep. Sam approached us and was very kind. He made us feel right at home and showed us around the dealership. He answered all of our questions on many vehicles and was very knowledgeable and patient through out the entire showing. We came across an SUV that was perfect in every way for our family. Sam gave us a really good deal and we really wanted to take time to consider it. We went home and discussed every aspect of the deal and decided two days later this is exactly what we wanted. Sam was an amazing rep., your very lucky to have him on the staff here at House of Imports. Thank you so much Sam for making this process easy and we are very happy with our vehicle.
My SUV – Came to House of Imports to see about getting out of my car and into a suv because I am pregnant and will need more room. I found out alot of information on the Mercedes SUV. They were very helpful and understanding to my needs/wants. I am happy with my purchase and I thank you guys for all the help in getting me in a better situation. I will be sure to let everyone looking for a vehicle to come see Mike in sales!
Ill Be Back – Love my new Mercedes, Chris did a great job by assisting me all the way through. Darlene the girl who answers the phone was so pleasant every time I called to ask Chris another question. (I probably called 4-6 times a day for 3 days) I will tell everyone at my work, family and friends about the great experience I had at House of Imports. See you for service.
didnt purchase yet but great experience – Came to House Of Imports to look at a Mercedes for my wife birthday. It was a last minute idea that I thought would be perfect for her 50th birthday. I ended up speaking with Alex who was very knowledgeable of Mercedes products. Unfortunately we were not able to make a deal due to my financial situation but as soon as I am able to I will be going to see Ales at House of Imports Mercedes Benz BP.
Happy customer – I went to House of Imports 2 times before I purchased. The first time I went it was with a friend, who was getting service on her car; Kenny and Chris were both very friendly and helpful to her specific needs. The second time was with my sister who purchased there. I both times was very happy with the customer service they both received. They were very willing to do whatever was needed to make the customer happy. That to me is why I came to purchase my vehicle a year later from the same dealer. Customer service that was proven to me many times to be exceptional. I purchased my vehicle through the same salesperson Dave Gonzalez that my sister had. I was completely satisfied with the entire process. I am now a happy customer of House of Imports Mercedes Benz, Buena Park
