Editorial Review for Fried Dumpling – by Janet Tzou
The Scene
There are exactly three small tables at this tiny hole in the wall, but for food lovers on a budget, it's heaven. Five juicy, tender dumplings ring in at $1, so two people can eat themselves silly for less than $10. The two condiment bottles on the table provide all that you need: a tangy blend of vinegar and soy sauce in one, and spicy chili sauce in the other.
The Food
The fried or boiled dumplings come in either pork or veggie versions and are handmade, with a fragrant dose of chives. But don't overlook the other tasty Shanghainese treats: da bing (plump sesame-encrusted "pancakes" that are steamed, then fried); fried round pork buns; tea eggs; perfectly savory hot-and-sour soup; congee (a thickened rice and red bean soup); and to perfectly complement your meal, all the fresh, hot, high-protein soy milk that you can drink.

I wanted some cheap thrill that would fill me up for dinner. I read about this place on yelp. However, the address given at yelp is 106 Mosco St. So I hope this is the same "Fried Dumpling" store. Anyhow, I bought 60 dumplings for $10 and brought home my prize to cook in two different ways: boiled and fried. Both cooking methods yielded delicious dumplings with juicy interiors. The filling is pretty good, though not as good as those you get in the full service dim sum restaurants...but hey, what do you expect for the price? Definitely would recommend this place for anyone looking for frozen dumplings.
Pros: Cheap, tasty and satisfying

Have to agree with the last review - I went out of my way to check this place out based on top cheap eats reviews and all these postings and this was the biggest dissapointment - this is your basic frozen dumpling fried - nothing special - cheap filler and not probably not all that good for you - maybe some cardboard boxes in the filling (they actually did this in China) but I couldn't really tell. There are so many places in NY that actually make the dumplings in front of you - and some for the same prices in Chinatown.
Pros: Cheap Filler
Cons: Unhealthy, not that tasty
