Editorial Review for Tangier Restaurant & Lounge – by Martha Burr
The Scene
A demure, sophisticated dining space belies the adjoining Saharan den of sin that's filled with plush couches, pulsing DJ music and a crowd of beautiful young things, including up-and-coming celebrities and hard-posing wannabes. A dinner reservation easily gets commoners through the velvet ropes.
The Food
Groovy scene notwithstanding, the haute California food has brought Los Feliz up a much-needed culinary notch. Don't expect North African dishes. Appetizers are pleasant, like the piquant mussels swathed in a coconut ginger broth, and spicy, succulent crab cakes. But these pale beside the thick, butter-tender filet mignon, or seafood pie's perfectly flaky, melting crust which reveals steaming, tender fish, shrimp and scallops. A luxe meal at this restaurant/nightclub is a perfect start to a decadent evening.

Tangier is a very elegant and hip looking restaurant. However, looks may be deceiving. My overall experience wasn't that great. The I ordered the shrimp linguini and it only had 3 shrimps! The portions were very small. I usually get full before I can finish the whole plate, but seems like I had to rely on dessert this time to get full (which was very delicious by the way). There was a small insect in my wine. It got replaced, but the waitress pretended it was cork. Who was she trying to kid? Cork doesn't have 6 legs and wings. We still got charged for the drink. Typically restaurants remove it from the tab to make up for it. The valet parking was $5 and parking on the street was not an option. There weren't any spaces available.
Pros: Nice setting
Cons: the food

Actually, we thought the food was really good Great cappucino and flourless chocolate cake We were there on a Wednesday and the jazz duo was great. There's two areas that have music and the dining room is really romantic, the blonde pianist has a great voice
